increases rates
Nursery is...
sliding down a slide...
singing an action song.
Effective Sept. 1, Base Nursery rates
will be 80 cents per hour for one child,
$1 per hour for two children and $1.20
per hour for three or more children.
The increase in rates is required to
meet operating costs.
Beginning Sept. 1, the increased out-
lay in employee salaries will total more
than $2,000 monthly; and, because user
fees are the sole source of funds for
operating the nursery, there was no
other alternative but to raise the
rates, a spokesman said.
The Base Nursery, sponsored by the
Officers' Wives Club, is located next
to the Iceland Defense Force Headquar-
ters and is open to all children from
six months through seven years of age.
The hours are 7:45 a.m. to 5:15
p.m. Monday through Friday, except for
American holidays, and on Sunday from
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for children
whose parents are attending church ser-
vices .
During weekdays, lunches and snacks
are available or children may bring
their own.
Because the facility is limited to
how many children it may accommodate,
reservations are advisable. Standing
and regular reservations may be made.
However, because the facility is a
nursery, not a day care center, it is
necessary to regulate fees and estab-
lish rules to accommodate both the
working mother and those who use the
nursery on an hourly basis. The rules
are available at the Base Nursery.
Special rates are available for
working mothers.
A nursery school for three and four
year olds is also available. The sign
up date for the fall session has ex-
pired, but newcomers may put their
child's name on a waiting list to fill
spaces vacated by children who leave.
A nursery open house will be held
