In preseason flog football
IDF/CFK crushes A.T. Mahan Vikings
The IDF/CFK team defeated the A.
T. Mahan, Vikings, 18-6, Sunday in
base preseason flag football tourn-
ament finals. The Vikings, along
with their new mentor, Darrell
Dougherty, battled through three
opponents Saturday and Sunday to
reach the finals. The Vikings de-
feated Rockville, Admin and the
Marines to gain the finals against
IDF.
Mike Berry drew first blood for
the Vikings with a 60-yard scamper
to the IDF goal line for the only
scoring that the Vikings put up the
entire afternoon. However, Coach
Doughtery was not operating at full
strength as scatback Raymond Parker
saw limited action because of in-
juries. Defensive tackle Greg
Doughtery also suffered a cut lip;
these injuries hurt the Vikings
Golf
tourney held
The 1978 NavSta Ness Golf
Tournament was held Sunday at the
Ness Golf Club in Reykjavik. Six-
teen golfers from the base partic-
ipated, losing the match by only
one stroke. A rematch to be held
in Keflavik will determine the
overall winner of the team trophy.
Individual prizes were awarded
in two categories:
Handicap
1st J.oecks 80 - 66 Base
2nd Barry 83 - 69 Base
3rd Greyerbeil 85 - 70 Base
Scratch
1 St Hanson 80 Ness
2nd Fladager 82 Base
3rd Gudmunsson 83 Ness
because both boys were counted on
heavily.
IDF got on the scoreboard when
Dave Nielsen crossed the Vikings'
goal on a end sweep for five yards.
The try for point was no good with
the first half closing 6 to 6.
The first half was mainly a de-
fensive battle with Mike McGlynn,
leading the way with eight unassis-
isted stops for the Vikings and
Rick Cason, a two-way man for IDF,
putting the stop on tailback Donn
Haviland's thrust up the center and
his pitchouts to Mike Berry, going
around end.
In the second half, the Vikings
started their attack with a passing
game that never got off the ground.
Haviland's passes to Jimmy McDowell
either fell incomplete or gained
little yardage when IDF put a strong

demonstration
A karate demonstration will be
held at the gym. Reynir Santos, a
third degree black belt from Rey-
kjavik and new base karate instruc-
tor, will give a power and pain
demonstration.

worked well the first half. IDF's

Mike Berry began to limp which bog-
ged the Viking offense machine.
Meanwhile, the IDF offensive
unit went to work on the crippled
Vikings with a combination of pas-
sing and running that resulted in
the second score; Tim Mueller
swept end to score on a five-yard
jaunt. Again the try for point was
no good for a 12-6 score in IDF's
favor. Rick Cason, ran a pass back
for 40 yards to end IDF's scoring.
New Pool Rules
New regulations have been init-
iated at the swimming pool to en-
sure patron safety:
1. The pool phone is to be used
for emergencies only. All ques-
tions will be answered at 5191.
2. Patrons are asked not to
carry on conversations with the
lifeguards while their attention
should be on the pool.
3. The last 10 minutes of each
hour will be a break period for
the guards and patrons will be
asked to leave the water and
rest.
Women’s survey
A survey is being conducted by
the athletic division to tap the
interest of women in sports activ-
ities. Survey forms are available
at the gym, the Navy Exchange , the
Commissary Store and each club.
