NS Fire Dept.
outlines EDITH
With family quarters fire in-
spections in full swing, the Naval
Station Fire Department is prepar-
ing for Operation "EDITH" (Exit
Drill in the Home).
Operations "EDITH" is scheduled
for Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m. Four fire
engines, manned by two firemen
each, will cruise the housing areas
during the all-out exercise.
Fire Department officials ex-
plain that EDITH is a plan to save
your life in case of fire. Famil-
ies are urged not to wait for
smoke and fire to surprise them.
Early planning is suggested.
The key to the success of the
Operation EDITH is to discuss and
plan ahead. Residents are asked
to sit down with their families
to make step-by-step plans for
emergency fire escape. Occupants
should diagram two routes to the
outside from all rooms, but es-
pecially from bedrooms.
Then, families should select
a place outdoors for everyone to
meet for roll call.
