Attend a pancake
A long-standing custom celebrated
by the Christian Church is that of
Shrove Tuesday. Coming on the eve
of Ash Wednesday, Christian people
gathered and as a preparation of ab-
staining from eating meat and dairy
products during Lent, baked up what
stocks of butter and mild they had
into pancakes.
In French countries the day is
called Mardi Gras or "Fat Tuesday."
The name Shrove Tuesday comes from
the word "shriving" or the forgiving
of sins. The use of pancakes as the
basic menu then becomes part of the
time of reveling before the fast be-
gins.

the manpower shortage at the FPO as
the causes. Incoming mail is also
sometimes delayed through misrouting
to other zip codes, nonavailability
of flights or unforseen circum-
stances .
A function of the U.S. Postal
Service, the Fleet Post Office in
New York is staffed by civilian
postal employees and not by military
personnel. Military postal clerks
only serve in an advisory capacity
to the postal service. They are not
involved in the actual processing or
handling of the mail.
What does this all mean - just a
delay in personal mail from loved
ones and friends? What about doing
business with creditors, banks and
other agencies?
Unless you inform your creditors
or business agents and make them a-
ware of the erratic mail situation
to and from Keflavik, your credit
rating or reliability could be af-
fected .

mate mail caused credit problems,

memo should be in the Post Office in
a few days. Send a copy along with
your next payment or deposit, par-
ticularly if you've experienced mail
delay problems.
This should help protect your
credit rating and reduce service

local commands. It will not relieve
your obligation to make timely pay-

any payment lost in the mail.

that is possible to find a solution
to Keflavik's mail problem and will
keep the community informed on
