His Excellency visited the Public Works Facility and he is (center) speaking to some of the Pub- lic Works employees, who are Bjorgvin Skarphedinsson, Skuli Sighvatsson and Benedikt R. Benediktsson. They are carpenters in the Public Works Carpenter Shop. Vehicle inspection deadline is here The deadline for the JO-tag vehi- cle inspection is this Thursday at 4:15 p.m. This week is your last chance to get your vehicle inspect- ed at Building 507 (Wash Rack). If you fail to get your vehicle inspected at the Wash Rack by Thurs- day, the Icelandic Police have granted vehicle owners one week to have their vehicle inspection com- pleted in Keflavik. It your vehicle is waiting for repair parts before you can get it inspected, you are required to re- move the JO tags from the vehicle and turn them into the Icelandic Po- lice Station at Njardvik gate (gate 2). Next you are required to get an on-base temporary parking permit frort the Naval Station Security Of- fice. Then when your vehicle is re- paired you can pick up your tags at the Police Station and drive to the inspection station in Keflavik. Now you have the vehicle insoected at this inspection station, and then you will return to the Icelandic Police Station and show proof of in- spection. If the Icelandic Police remove the JO tags, either on base or at the gate, the vehicle must be towed off base to the Vehicle Inspection Station, and the owner is subject to fines in Icelandic Courts. After the vehicle has been towed to the inspection station and the inspec- tion has been completed, the JO tags must be reobtained at the Icelandic Police Station prior to driving the vehicle. After remounting JO vehicle tags on the vehicle, the owner may drive to the Naval Station Security Office for vehicle registration and Naval Station vehicle registration tag issue. Avoid the problems of off base inspection by having your vehicle inspected on base prior to the Thursday deadline.
