Five selected for their efforts
A moment to reflect o
Five persons have been selected
as the Iceland Defense Force Out-
standing Personnel of the Quarter
from January to March.
They are Ocean Systems Technician
First Class John W. Pecue, Crypto-
logic Technician Seaman Edward J.
Walker, Jr., Staff Sergeant Dana M.
Bennett, Senior Airman Robert A.
Arrico, and Lance Corporal Mark G.
Klassen. Selected from among their
peers for their outstanding profes-
sional and military performance,
each member will receive a letter of
commendation, wooden plaque and a
priority one on a Naval Station Kef-
lavik Environmental and Morale
Flight to Europe.

0T1 John W. Pecue, the IDF Petty
Officer of the Quarter, has been as-
signed to Commander Fleet Air Kefla-
vik since August 1979.
Petty Officer Pecue is responsi-
ble for post flight analysis and re-
view of antisubmarine warfare data.
He changed rate to Ocean Systems
Technician from the Cryptologic
Technician rating. Commenting on
the change, he said, "The OT rate
has only been established within the
last 10 years. I felt the oppor-
tunities for advancement were better
in the OT rate. Also there are many
challenges and I enjoy working with
a close knit group of people."
The 34-year-old native of Fort
Edward, New York, is a 16-year vet-
eran of the Navy. He has earned
three Good Conduct Medals, the Na-
tional Defense Medal, and a letter
of appreciation from the Secretary
of the Navy for Antisubmarine War-
fare Unit efficiency.
Since his arrival he has been ac-
tive in command sports and is a mem-
ber of the bowling and softball
teams.

SSgt. Dana M. Bennett, the IDF
Air Force Noncommissioned Officer of
the Quarter, has been attached to
the 960th Airborne Warning and Con-
trol Support Squadron since November
1979.
When SSgt. Bennett arrived
assumed the duties as the Aerosp
Ground Equipment pickup and delivi
section supervisor and was respons'
ble for the servicing, Inspection,
dispatch, and pickup of equipment as
well as minor vehicle maintenance.

CTOSN Edward J. Walker, Jr., the
IDF Sailor of the Quarter, has been
assigned to the Naval Facility since
July 1979.
Assigned to the Intelligence Di-
vision, CTOSN Walker is responsible
for communication intelligence.
This entails the handling, routing,
and delivery of messages to the pro-
per personnel for action.
Iceland is a good place to be
stationed if you are a Cryptologic
Technician. It gives you a great
opportunity to grow professionally,"
he said.
Seaman Walker entered the Navy in
1978 and attended boot camp at Great
Lakes, from there he went on to "A"
school at Pensacola, Florida.
While here on a one year tour,
Seaman Walker has traveled exten-
sively throughout Iceland.
CTOSN Walker stated, "I like the
Icelandic countryside very much, and
I find the people friendly."
The native of Limestone, New
York, enjoys playing football and
basketball. He also plans on join-
ing the pommand golf team. Seaman
Walker plays guitar, enjoys singing,
and writes some of his own material.
Additionally he likes to camp and
fish.
Seaman Walker’s future plans in
the Navy include a commission
through NROTC. "I guess I’m just
old fashioned and a patriot. I
think it’s an honor to serve one’s
country," stated Walker,
Seaman Walker will leave Iceland
for 10 weeks of schooling in Tacti-
cal Intelligence and will then re-
port to the destroyer Ingersoll,
homeported in San Diego.
