Bowling teams defend NEBT titles
The men's and women's NATO Ease
bowling teams easily defended their
title in the Northern European Bow-
ling Tournament held last weekend at
RAF Benwater, England.
Both teams finished first in the
team competition. The ladies out-
distanced Brawdy, Wales, by 91 pins
over the six game event while the
men had an easier time of it, fin-
ishing 138 pins in front of London.
Nancy Racky and Doris McGlynn
teammed po take the doubles title
for the women with Keflavik's Laine
Mauser and Yvonne Atteberry grabbing
the runner-up honors.
The best showing in doubles for
the men was fifth. Bruce Michaelson
and Bert Quintans grabbed that spot
while Chuck Parker and George Letke
were eight.
In singles it was a one, two
three finish for Keflavik in the
women's division. McGlynn's 1116
was first, Racky's 965 was second
and Mauser's 928 third in the six
game event.
in the all-events category, Mc-
Glynn averaged 173 for the 18 games
and was the best individual bowler
with a 3,120 total. Mauser was sec-
ond with a 2,830. Atteberry was
fifth and Racky seventh.
On the men's side, Michaelson
easily won the crown with a 3,330
total. Parker was fourth and Letke
fifth.
AFI #2 opens up six game lead in
American League at halfway point
AFI #2 has opened up a six game
lead in the American League of In-
tramural bowling as the season
reaches the halfway point.
AFI shutout the 57th FIS Monday
night behind Paul Pietruszewski's
543 set.
The race appears to be for second
place with seven teams separated by
just a game. AIMD, Navy Broadcas-
ting and NavCommSta all have 14 vic-
tories, IDF is half a game away
while Food Service, the 960th AWACSS
and the Commissary all are bunched
up at 13.
Phil Charron had games of 222 and
203 and a 602 series to pace the
960th to a 3-1 decision over AIUD.
Mike Luce was next with a 200 and
521 and Ed Jones added a 516. Steve
Dugan led AIMD with a 206 and 550
and Don Reiser had a 522. Betty
Henderson's 503 led the Commissary
to a 4-0 win over NavFac, CommSta
shutout Comptroller, Don Phelps had
a 202 and 527 in Navy Broadcasting's
3-1 decision over Food Services and
IDF took three from VP-46 behind
Harvey Oaks' 511.
In the North Atlantic League, Air
Ops It1 shutout CFK and broke the tie
for first place. They hold a one
game advantage over CommSta NRK, who
won three from the Black Knights.
Steve Euffington paced Ops with a
542 set and was followed by Worm
Gray's 532 and Billy Ohl's 514.
Tony Caruso added a 202 game. Ed
Sibel was high for CFK with a 217
and 543 and Greg Patrick had a 206
and 535. NRK had all five bowlers
break the 500 barrier, but still
only mustered a 3-1 decision. Greg
Loos was high with a whopping 257
game and 597 set. Dan Smith fol-
lowed with a 20] and 563, Doug Drew-
ry had a 624, Vern Matteson a 512
and Russ Beard a 504.
In other action JoJo Enriquez had
a 213 game in Club Management's 4-0
win over AIMD It2, the Pass Office
shutout Medical #2, the 57th FIS #3
team won three from Air Ops It2, and
the 960th It3 squad was a 3-1 winner
over weapons.
In the International League,
Admin maintains their slim one game
lead. They won the first two games
but lost the last and total pins to
Det. 14 to manage only a split.
Bruce Ware led the Jolly Green's
comeback with a 519 set and Dale
Cook added a 507.
In remaining action, Specomm
shutout Public Works behind Jay
Norris' 545, Jack Torbert's 200 and
525 and Frank Caille's 517. NavFac
It 1 won three from the Marines de-
spite a 509 set by the Marines' Dan
Cain. Tom Andres had a 537 and Mike
Stasiak a 520 as NSGA It 1 blanked the
960th AWACSS, NavFac It3 was a 4-0
winner over NSGA's It2 team and AFI
and Grindavik split. George McHugh
had a 547 and Darwin Ray a 203 and
542 for AFI.
Paul Marusov rolled a 204 and
516 and Randy Hunter had a 201 game
to lift Medical to a 3-1 win over
the Supply Chiefs. The win main-
tained Medical's one and a half game
lead in the National League.
The 57th Good Guys moved into
second place with a 4-0 win over
CommSta NRK It2. The Supply Chiefs
dropped to third and NRK is fourth.
Rounding out the remaining ac-
tion, ComFairKef won three from the
Navy Exchange, AFI was a 3-1 winner
over the CFK Chiefs despite a 204
and 504 by Jerry Dretsch and IsCom-
Ice downed the 57th FIS It5 team for
three. Denny Lewey led IsComlce
with a 530 and Dick Henderson had a
514. Bob Shaffer paced the 57th
with a 513 and Walt Myros added a
510.
Andrews & Dugan
top no tap
Tom Andrews and Willa Dugan were
the top finishers in the no tap
bowling tournament sponsored by the
KWBA last weekend.
Andrews rolled a 738 set to win
the men's division while Dugan's
648 took honors in the women's divi-
sion.
Judy Dempsey was second for the
women with a 598, while Marge Engler
grabbed high game honors with a 246.
Andrews had the men's high game with
a 288.
Dan Smith was second on the men's
side with a 707. Dan Bushong's 703
was good enough for third. Fred Ur-
ban was fourth with a 698 and Dale
Cook fifth at 688.
