Deadline change
next week
The deadline for all news sto-
ries and classified ads is noon
Monday for this week only. The
July 4th edition of the White Fal-
con will be ready for distribution
on Thursday afternoon.
The White Falcon will return to
its normal deadlines for the week
of July 7, (classified ads 5 p.m.
Mondays and other news noon Tues-
days) .
A/EX sales on July 3 & 4
There will be two concurrent
Navy Exchange sales—July 3 Toy-
land's opening sale and a July 4
sale The retail store has some
new items such as macrame articles
and all-purpose sport cleats for
the sportsman.
Life's performances begin Monday
"Life" an eight member DOD/USO
Show will be aboard the NATO base
Sunday through Saturday and whose
performances are: Monday, 6:30
p.m., Andrews Theater; Tuesday, 6
p.m., Rockville; Thursday, noon at
H-3 Hofn, and 8 p.m. in the Youth
Center; Friday, 1:30 p.m., at Han-
gar #885 in conjunction with July
4 celebration;;and Friday, 6 p.m.,
at Andrews Theater.
Base park meeting on Monday
Plans are being made for the
upcoming NATO base park which will
be built behind the Mini-Mart. An
enthusiastic core group is dis-
cussing the project from all an-
gles each Monday at 7:30 p.m. in
the Community Center.
Our park is a volunteer commu-
nity project that opens interest-
ing activities for many people.
It's not too late to get in on the
beginning of this project.
Our Public Works department
will hire a landscape architect
early next month to help with the
project. It is our intent to do
as much planning and discussing
of possibilities in order to be
prepared to meet with the land-
scape architect and best use his
professional skills.

please join us. There is a place
for everyone; you are needed. For

July 4th celebration
Many events are planned
"Thank You America," is the theme
for this year's Independence Day
celebration on the NATO base. Acti-
vities on the 4th of July will in-
clude a parade featuring grocery
cart floats, a "Patriot" Fair at
Hanger 885, games, sporting events,
fireworks at noon, a crafts show at
the Hobby Center and the US0/D0D en-
tertainment group "Life." The "Mz
USO" beauty contest will be held on
Sunday at 7:30 p.m., and the winner
will be in the 4th of July parade.
The parade, which originates at
the Commissary, will start at about
12:30 p.m. following the grocery
cart decoration; competition and a
brief fireworks display. Because of
the limited amount of darkness, the
fireworks will lean more toward
noise and away from the bright col-
ors usually associated with fire-
works .
The grocery cart competition will
feature prizes in three categories:
Theme, Originality and Color. The
contestants will be allowed only 45
minutes to decorate the carts. Pre-
planning and imagination will be re-
quired. The contestants will push
or pull the carts along the parade
route from the Commissary to Hangar
885.
The "Patriot" Fair will feature
booths manned by many local clubs
and groups. The booths will be
selling a variety of food and soft
drinks, as well as providing games
for all ages. The award winning
group "Life", a Las Vegas type vari-
ety show, will perform 1:30 p.m. at
the "Patriot" Fair and 6:30 p.m. at
Andrews Theater.
There are numerous other events
planned in conjunction with the 4th
of July celebration. An Indepen-
dence Day Golf tournament will tee
off 10 a.m. at the golf course. You
sign up at the base gym right up to
tee off time, and there is no charge
except for green fees.
An Air Force vs. Navy softball
game begins at 6 p.m. July 4 and
will be followed by the winner play-
ing against the NATO all-star team
at 7 p.m. Sign-up for the Air Force
vs. Navy softball game is at the
base gym up to the day before the
game.
On July 5, a Yellow Ribbon Run
will be held 10 a.m. commencing at
the gym. Sign up for the Run is up
to the day of the race, and there -is
a small registration fee to be paid
at the gym. Participants may elect
to compete in the two or six mile
contests.
There will be open bowling at the
Arctic Lanes on July 4.
Stash your trash and
help keep Iceland
Trips in the country need little
planning. But there's one plan that
should be included—always; take
sufficient plastic bags to carry all
your trash away from the camp-site
or picnic spot.
Nothing is as disturbing in Ice-
land's unspoiled nature as coming a-
cross a thoughtless person's left-
over cans, wrappers or "disposa-
bles." They are not bio-degradable-
---they can remain an eyesore for
years.
Picking up trash for later dis-
posal should be as much part of your
routine as filling the tank with
gas. People who leave litter give
us all a bad name. Let's not be bad
beautiful
guests-stash that trash and leave
Iceland the way you find it - unpol-
luted.
