Ware & Schiff win doubles racquetball title
This past weekend the second
loubles racquetball tournament of
he summer was held at the Base Gym.
There were nine teams participating
in the two day event.
Bruce Ware and Richard Schiff
defeated Dan Rhodes and Cindy Mason
to begin the tournament. Mike
Fedak and Clyde Keller won by for-
feit over Larry Cole and Tim Hauck
to enter the finals. Dennis Lewey
and John Coombs lost their match to
Cole and Ilauck and proceeded to the
loser's bracket. They won over
Rhodes and Mason, Mauzy and Capelli,
Beckham and Leone, Fedak and Keller
and earned the right to meet Ware
and Schiff in the finals.
In the final match, Ware and
Schiff proved victorious over the
tandem of Coombs and Lewey in two
games, 15-10 and 15-7 for first
place honors. Lewey and Coombs
finished second while Cole and Hauck
captured third place.
Also held this weekend was the
first summer tournament for women,
which thirteen ladies entered.
NATO women top European softball
The NATO Base Women's Softball
team took top honors in the North
European Women's Softball tourna-
ment held recently in England.
During the competition the Kefla-
vik team defeated London, 20-3,
Edzell, 9-2 and 14-7, and Brawdy,
24-6. Their only loss was against
Edzell who they defeated twice on
the final day of play. The final
day of competition was a long one
as the girls played three seven
inning games consecutively.
The team was coached by Dwight
Rawls and its members included Vicki
Dew, Mary "Tica" O'Brien, Diana Wid-
man, Joyce Fisher, Kathy Rawls,
Laura Canepa, Amy Cooke, Penny San-
vido, Linda Burroughs, Lynne Strel-
zick and Leah Evans.
Dan Bushong & Willa Dugan take no tap crowns
Dan Bushong and Willa Dugan cop-
ped top honors in last weekend's
KMBA sponsored no tap tournament,
which had 148 entrants.
Bushong finished with a 690 for
a two pin victory in the men's dlvi-
ion, and Dugan's 647 series captur-
d the top spot on the women's side.
Dale Peters bowled the high game
during the tournament with a tapped
300 game and Sherrie Shaffer, with a
255 game, topped' the women bowlers.
Second place for the women went
to Shaffer with a 636 while Linda
Patrizi and Agnes Letke followed
with 572 and 568 respectively.

On the mens side, Dan Smith took
second place with a 688 series and
Bob Schaffer hung-on for third place
with a 683. Joe Floirendo rolled a
664 for fourth, while Dale Peters
and Ed Jones finished in fifth and
sixth place with a 662 and 654
series. Steve Dugan took seventh
place with a 654; George McHugh's
650 was good for eighth; Jeff Coo-
per ended up in ninth with a 648;
and Doug Larson, Mike Braden and
Jeff McLucas captured the three re-
maining positions.
Short shots
Tomorrow there is a match be-
tween Base Golfers and the Keflavik
Club. There will be a dinner at the
Officer's Club following the match.

Rhee Ann Goldsmith was victorious
over Pat Bertrand, Jill Haefner and
Debbie Leone to move into the final
round undefeated. Debbie Leone
defeated Terry VanDoran, Sue Jacob-
meir and Linda Keath before losing
to Goldsmith. She then moved to the
losers bracket where she met and
defeated Gill Haefner 7-15, 15-6 and
11-7 to enter the final round.
In the finals Rhee Ann Goldsmith
earned the first place title beating
Leone 15-10, 13-15 and 11-1.
