Kalajian wins Base Golf Championship
Joe Kalajian defeated Walter Hocketstaller on the first hole of a sud-
den death tie breaker to win the Base Golf Championship held last weekend
at the Holmsvollur Golf Course in Keflavik.
Kalajian and Hocketstaller were tied after 36 holes of play. Kalajian
shot rounds of 81 and 78 while Hocketstaller matched that with 13 hole
totals of 80 and 79. Kalajian ended it quickly, as he stroked a birdie
on the first sudden death hole and defeated Hocketstaller who shot a bogie
on the final hole.
Hocketstaller placed second, and Bob Lynn took third with a two day
total of 163.
In handicap play, Jack Chriswell took first place. He had a handicap
of 17 and shot a net score of 139. Bob York captured second place with a
final score of 143 and a 14 handicap; and third place went to Ron Fye with
a 21 handicap and a 145 net score.
All Stars place 2nd in regionals
The NATO Base Men's All Star Softball Team placed second in the Euro-
pean Regional Softball Tournament held recently in Edzell, Scotland.
Edzell, who eventually took the title, defeated the All Stars in the
last inning of the first game 4-3. The All Stars moved into the losers
bracket where they defeated St. Mawgan 20-0; London 18-2; Brawdy 17-5; and
the USS Holland 16-2 and entered the finals against Edzell.
Edzell romped over the All Stars in that final game 16-2 and earned the
regional softball title.
Anyone interested in a Softball
Fast Pitch Tournament is invited to
attend a meeting on Tuesday at the
Base Gym at 5 p.m.
The Fall Run-Off will be held
Sept. 1 There will be Men's, Women's
and Masters' events included for
10,000 meters or two-mile run-offs.
There is an entry fee.
The Base Gym will be closed Aug.
22 for Pest Control.
As of tomorrow the pool will be
closing at 9:45 p.m. vice 10 p.m. on
Saturday and Sunday.
A racquetball tournament is
scheduled for August 24 and 25.
Divisions will include Womens and
Masters singles, and a doubles
event. Registration begins Aug. 18
and there is an entry fee.
Another racquetball tournament
is scheduled for Aug. 30 and 31 and
this tourney will include Men's
Class A and Open Singles. Registra-
tion begins Aug. 25 and there is a
fee.
The "Aerobics in Motion" YMCA-
sponsored aerobic dancing class
proves that exercise can be fun.
Day and evening classes are offered.

There will be a meeting for any-
one interested in Flag Football at
the Base Gym on Monday at 5 p.m.
Rosters are due on the 18th and the
season begins Aug. 25.
