Ware, Cook & Leone win in racquetball
The team of Bruce Ware and Dale Cook copped the
doubles crown and Debbie Leone won the women's title
in last weekend's LEACH sponsored racquetball tournament
held at the base gym.
Greg Reed and Paul Saucedo met the tandem of Ware and
Cook in the finals and came from behind to win the first
match two games to one. This necessitated a tie
breaking match.
Ware and Cook proved too strong in that match and de-
feated Reed and Saucedo for the doubles title.
Ware and Cook entered the finals with wins over Dan
Rhodes and Cindy Mason, Dennis Mauzy and Larry Capilli,
and Reed and Saucedo in the preliminary round.
Reed and Saucedo's path to the finals wasn't as easy.
They defeated Greg Beckham and Debbie Leone, but lost to
Ware and Cook and were forced into the losers bracket.
There they once again defeated Beckham and Leone to earn
a berth in the finals.
Reed and Saucedo placed second in doubles competition
while Beckham and Leone finished in third place.
Debbie Leone, who battled her way through the losers
bracket, met and defeated Jill Haefner for the women's
singles title.
Leone defeated Haefner in the first match in two
games and a playoff match was necessary. In that match
Leone won after three games and clinched first place
honors.
Haefner reached the final round with wins over Pat
Bertrand and Leone, while Leone defeated Cathy Urbar
twice and lost once to Haefner in the preliminaries.
