In other play, AIMD grabbed three
games from NavFac as Perry Boren
provided the firepower with a 209
and 517; the 57th FIS #1 lost three
games to the 960th AWACSS 111 squad
as Ron Fye helped the team with a
510. Don Hardin rolled a 506 for
the FIS. IceDeFor took a 3-1 deci-
sion from Food Service.
VP-9 made up three postponed
matches against the 57th FIS, losing
3-1, Comptroller and NavFac, with
K-9 shutout in those matches. Phil
^Bauvelt rolled a 615 for NavFac.

NFL games. Oakland defeated San
Diego 38-24; New Orleans remained
winless as they were defeated by
Detroit 24-13; Cleveland handled
Seattle easily 27-3; Kansas City
upset Houston 21-20; the New York
Jets surprised Atlanta 14-7; the
Los Angeles Rams beat St. Louis
21-13; Dallas trounced San Francisco
59-14; Baltimore upset Buffalo
17-12; the Cincinnati Bengals downed
the World Champion Pittsburgh
Steelers for the second time this
season 17-16; New England shutout
their division foe Miami 34-0;
Philadelphia handed the New York
Giants their fifth loss 31-16; Tampa
Bay and Green Bay played to a 14-14
tie; Minnesota downed Chicago
13-7; and Denver defeated the Skins.
Baseball
Kansas City's George Brett failed
to reach the elusive .400 batting
mark, but he still finished at a
spectacular .390 clip, the highest
in the American League this year.
Ben Oglive of the Milwaukee Brewers
and Reggie Jackson of the Yankees
shared the Home Run Title. Each
man clouted 41 round trippers.
Cecil Cooper of the Brewers topped
the American league in RBI's with
121. And Baltimore's Steve Stone
led the pitchers in the American
league with 25 wins.
In the National league, Mike
Schmidt of the Phillies led the
league with 48 home runs and 121
RBI's. Bill Buckner of the Chicago
Cubs had the top batting average
with a .324. The Phil's Steve Carl-
ton led the league with 24 wins.
Boxing
WBA Junior Flyweight Champion
Yoko Gushiken of Japan retained his
title for the 13th time Sunday with
a unanimous 15-round decision over
Mexican challenger Pedro Flores.
It was Gushiken's 23rd consecu-
tive victory, 15 by knockout. The
fight was the first for Flores in
the Junior Flyweight division.
Tennis
Czechoslovakia's Regina Marsikova
toppled Australian Wendy Turnbull
Sunday in two tie breakers 7-6, 7-6
to win a women's tennis tournament
in Phoenix, Arizona.
Marsikova was seeded fifth in the
$100,000 Phoenix Classic. Turnbull
was ranked second. The victory was
the first for Marsikova over Turn-
bull in six meetings over two years.
John McEnroe defeated Australian
Phil Dent in straight sets Sunday to
win the $55,000 South Pacific Tennis
Classic in Brisbane, Australia.
Second-seeded Ivan Lendl of
Czechoslovakia took top prize in a
$175,000 tournament in Barcelona,
Spain, beating top-seeded Guillermo
Vilas of Argentina in a match that
lasted nearly five hours.
Jimmy Connors won a $117,000 pay-
off in Melbourne, Australia, Sunday
by defeating Gene Mayer in the
finals of the Super Challenge Tennis
Tournament.
Golf
Don January shot a four-under-par
69 Sunday to defeat fellow American
Art Wall by two strokes in the Aus-
tralian Seniors Golf Championship in
Sydney, Australia. January was 11-
uader-par for the tournament.

Bob Ueker, Milwaukee Brewer
Broadcaster and former big league
player, on a little league game in
which his son, Bobby Jr., now 14,
played: "He struck out three times
and lost the game when a ball went
through his legs at third base.
Parents were swearing and throwing
things at us as we left the ball
park. Gosh, I was proud. A chip
off the old block."
Local sports happenings
The Weight room at the Base Gym
is now available for use.
The basketball court area is
closed today through Oct. 19 for re-
finishing of the floor.
The Base Pool will be closed on
Oct. 22 and 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
for military training.
The Base Gym is accepting appli-
cations for a night janitor.
The Base Gym will be closed Mon-
day for routine pest control.
Racquetball rosters are due by
the 21st; the league begins on Mon-
day, Oct. 27.
Due to an increase in cost of re-
placing locks; long-term locker de-
posits will be increased to $4, ef-
fective today.
Judo lessons are available
through the gym. There is e regis-
tration fee.
