Turn It Off on Oct. 31
The Naval Station will conduct
a base-wide electrical load shedding
exercise October 31, 9 a.m. to noon.
The exercise will allow Public Works
to determine the minimum electrical
load to remain operational.
The information determined by
this exercise is very important.
Should the capacity to generate
electric power be decreased for an
extended length of time, Public
Works must reduce the electrical
load. They can either turn off a
section of the base, or you can re-
duce the overall consumption.
To be successful, this exercise
will require the participation of
every man, woman and child on the
base. Your cooperation and partici-
pation is requested. Between 9 and
noon Friday anything that is not ab-
solutely essential to perform the
mission of the base, or to keep your
house functional, should be turned
off. This is to include, but is not
limited to, office and hall lights,
office machinery, televisions,
radios, coffee pots, non-essential
work machinery, etc.
So help out. Between 9 and noon
on the 31st, if you don't need it,
Turn It Off.
Det. 14 aids in sea rescue
A Det. 14 HH-3 "Jolly Green
Giant” helicopter was called into
action recently to aid in the rescue
of an injured seaman.
A crew member of the stern
trawler Juni GK-343 from Hafnar-
fjordur, suffered serious injuries
when he fell from the deck into a
fish hold. Conditions for the res-
cue attempt were good and the man
was at the City Hospital in Reykja-
vik about two hours after the call
for help was received.
The helicopter platform at the
City Hospital was used for the first
time since its construction this
year.
NCOA meeting Nov. 1
The first general membership
meeting for the Arctic Watch chapter
of the Noncommissioned Officers As-
sociation will be held November 1 at
2 p.m. in the Community Center. All
past, present and new members as
well as all other interested persons
are encouraged to attend.
This is an association of NCO's
E-4 - E-9 in all branches of the
service, with a primary goal of en-
hancing the image of the NCOs. The
orimarv goals of the Arctic Watch
chapter are the establishment of
a local scholarship fund and recog-
nition of personnel of the quarter
and year. The chapter is sponsoring
a booth at the PTO carnival to raise
funds so those goals can be reached.
