WHITE Keflavik, Iceland December 12, 1980 Volume 23, Number 49 FALCON News briefs Christmas portraits Photographs of children with Santa Claus are being taken at the base Hobby Shop on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The photos are 8 x 10 and a "minimum" fee is charged. Gas price increases The Navy Exchange has announced a 10 cent per gallon price increase for gasoline effective Monday. NEX specials A wide selection of "Waterford Crystal" and "Bosson Heads" will be available at the Navy Exchange Wednesday. Saturday is "kids day" from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. » TV ber Shop hours The Navy Exchange Crews Barber Shop will open 6:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. WF Happy Holidays page Beginning Monday you can come on in and sign the Happy Holidays page of next week's White Falcon. We are located in building 734C behind the Naval Station and Air Forces Iceland headquarters. So come in and wish happy holidays in print to your friends and neighbors on the NATO Base. All items e limited to stock on hand. f eati are Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa Claus took time out of his busy schedule this weekend to visit with the children of the town of Hofn. Four hundred children were Invited to the Hofn (H—3) site for an all-day Christmas party, which was hosted by the men of the site. A photo-feature on the party appears on pages four and five. Big year for benefits Congress passes military pay legislation The Chief of Naval Operations announced this week the 96th Con- gress passed perhaps the most sig- nificant legislation affecting military pay in history. All major 1980 objectives for pay and improved military compen- sation have been achieved. The total amount of all of these in- creases in pay and benefits for Navy personnel and their families exceeds $1.2 billion. A list of basic pay, allowances, career incentive pays and re-enlist- ment incentives passed by the Con- gress follows: The fair benefits package has just been passed. When signed by the President, the benefits will be effective January 1 and include: Sea pay for officers and enlisted consists of two parts. Regular sea pay and a sea pay premium: Regular sea pay is paid to sailors based on pay grade and the number of years of sea duty they have accumulated. Enlisted sea pay is paid to E-4 and above. For ex- ample, an E-6 with six years of sea duty will receive $225 per month in sea pay. Officer sea pay is paid to WO's, 0-1E/2E and 0-3 through 0-6 who have at least three years at sea to qualify. A sea pay premium provides an additional monthly amount of $130 for those qualifying for regular sea pay and serving at sea for more than 36 consecutive months. Submarine duty incentive pay. Increases sub pay for both officer and enlisted personnel. BAO for bachelors; All E-7’s and above have the option of receiving BAO, except while they are deployed from homeport for more than 90 days. Accumulation of up to 90 days of leave: Navy personnel on long deployments can accumulate up to 90 days of leave, usable in the year following their deployment. Enlisted members who extend at least one year on an overseas tour are eligible for one of the follow- ing: (continues on page 3)
