techniques. The studio is available
for rent for both IPA members and
non-member professional artists.
Lectures and workshops are held
regularly at the studio by local and
guest artists. These are especially
useful for IPA members and other
artists for continuing education, as
methods are constantly changing
and improving. Special workshops
in basic printmaking techniques
and use of the equipment are also
arranged for the benefit of teach-
ers, school groups, and individu-
als. These classes have been very
popular and will be increased in the
New Year. The studio has also been
rented out to professional artists
to hold workshops for teachers of
printmaking in primary and sec-
ondary schools.
The IPA studio is very sought after
by foreign artists. These frequent
visitors are an important part of the
Association’s operation and provide
excellent cultural and educational
value. The artists are generally
highly educated and experienced
individuals who share their creative
processes, give presentations and
hold workshops, as well as provide
important connections abroad re-
garding exhibitions, studio residen-
cies and other projects.
The IPA consistently advances this
type of cooperation with studios
abroad. Recent examples include
Boston Printmakers, Hot Bed
Press in Manchester, England and
Manhattan Graphics in New York
to name a few. In previous years,
the IPA has also maintained good
cooperation with printmaking as-
sociations across all of Scandinavia,
such as the recently formed GraN,
a collaboration of Nordic countries
currently organizing a triennial ex-
hibition with the goal of supporting
printmaking as a fine art.
The Icelandic Printmakers Asso-
ciation has been growing in recent
years through a variety of exciting
events and exhibitions. New mem-
bers are being accepted at every
board meeting, and this increase
in membership is a testament to
the continual fascination with new
processes and approaches to the art
of printmaking.
