NOTES
3 5 6 21—22 eodemqve anno: “vetri siSarr” Flat. I 95; “5 vetrum
siSarr” Fms. I 108 ; Flateyjarannåll has 877 (uncorrected). Who
the “exteri” may have been, referred to by AJ as having dated
the death of Emperor Ludovicus to 874, is not clear; Chronicon
Carionis (1584, p. 514) has the year 876, and so has D. Chytræi
Chronologia, 1586, p. 290.
3 5630 alii Aqvisgrani palatium vocant: Thus Adam of Bremen
I 38 (Schmeidler, p. 41).
3579 annum 889: See Flateyjarannåll s. a. 889.
35710-18 An insertion by AJ, based on Flateyjarannall 898, and
Krantz’s and Cario’s chronicles, see Krantz, Chronica (1546),
pp. 649-63; Chronicon Carionis, 1584, p. 520 (here it says that
Rollo at his baptism received the name Rupertus).
35722 Arnolfus: Thus also Flateyjarannall (-ulphus), while
OTr has Arnaldus (-aldr).
35723 8000: Fms. I 109 has 900, Flat. I 96 .viij. hundrut.
Flateyjarannall has “margar jiushundir”. AJ seems to have used
some third source (Adam of Bremen I 47 has 100,000), pos-
sibly Skjpld.
35728—35 87 Cf. the more detailed account I 464-6 and notes.
35 815 anno . . 810 aut circiter: In Flateyjarannall the beginning
of Ragnarr’s reign is referred to 810 (809 by AJ’s correction),
or to 813 according, as the annal says, to a dif ferent reckoning.
Flateyjarannåll gives 846 (uncorrected) as the date of Ragnarr’s
death, so that AJ’s statement that he reigned at the most for 37
years (I 3592) is evidently based on the annal.
35 823 Gautrico: Thus also at I 464*; in all other sources Eåra
is the daughter of HerraucSr. AJ is probably at fault.
35829-3° patris præfectum: Thus also the Eåttr af Ragnars-
sonum, Hauksbok 459. That the relationship is taken in this way
certainly depends on Skjpld., cf. Olrik, Aarb. 1894, pp. 147-9.
3 5 94-7 The division of the dominions between the sons of LoS-
brok agrees with Fåttr af Ragnarssonum, Hauksbok 464 (and
Fms. I 115). Skjpld. was presumably AJ’s source.
359®—3606 See Fms. I x 10—15 (Flat. I 96-8 has a shorter and
somewhat discrepant account).
3599 Ivari Widfadma avunculo: According to Fms. I 110-
iii, Kinrik, Olåfr’s father, was the nephew of Mogld, Ivarr’s
