noted, there are items in GI. kgl. sml. 2434 4to corresponding to
all these entries, although they do not appear in exactly the same
order. These items have been printed above, with the exception
of what corresponds to nos. 22—24 in Promus Condus, of which
more below. The entries in Promus Condus quoted above cor-
respond to our Appendix I in this way: nos. 19—21 = App. I
nos. 2—4; nos. 22—4 are not included, see below; no. 25 = App.
I nos. 5-10.
These items take up fols. 10V-35V in Vedel’s manuscript (fols.
I2v, 14V, 26-28 are blank). The pieces not included in Appen-
dix I are: fols. I5r-i8r, a summary of Håkonar saga Ivarssonar
(no. 23 in Promus Condus) ; fols. i8v—25V, a summary of Joms-
vikinga saga (no. 22) ; fols. 33r—35vi ^e “Vederlags Ret” (no.
24). The epitome of Håkonar saga is printed in Håkonar saga
Ivarssonar, 1952, pp. 37—40, cf. its introduction, pp. xm—xxvn.
The summary of Jåmsvikinga saga was made from AJ’s trans-
lation of the saga and consequently has no significant interest
(cf. above, pp. 171 and 176). The “Vederlags Ret” does not
concern our present purpose, since there is no reason to suppose
that it has any connection with AJ’s work. We have on the other
hånd, however, included in App. I no. 1 some excerpts from fol.
ior of Vedel’s manuscript, which are similar in character to ex-
cerpts nos. 5—10 and must be assumed to have the same origin,
even though they are not listed separately in Promus Condus.
The lists of bishops, the royal genealogies and the “Vederlags
Ret” in our manuscript must be presumed identical with nos. 19,
24 and 25 in Promus Condus. The remaining pieces are clearly
excerpts. As was pointed out in Håkonar saga Ivarssonar, p. XV,
it is by no means certain that Vedel owned these in any fuller
form. This question is however of minor interest, since the ex-
cerpts mentioned must be derived from an intermediate source:
translations or summaries of original Icelandic manuscripts.
