REIVINDICACIÓN
Una protesta
en los árboles
de la Alameda
La plataforma Alameda-Viva
colocó ayer unas garitas en las
copas de los plataneros de la
explanada norte del barrio en
senal de protesta por la supues-
ta tala de árboles que provoca-
rán las obras de reurbaniza-
ción de la Alameda y la cons-
trucción de un aparcamiento
subterráneo. La jornada reivin-
dicativa se inauguró ayer con
un desayuno aéreo que abre
varios días de movilizaciones
en los árboles de la Alameda.
La plataforma realizó el pasa-
do mes unas jomadas de deba-
te sobre las obras que la Geren-
cia de Urbanismo proyecta en
la barriada a las que se invitó a
los delegados munidpales de
Obras Públicas y Transportes,
Isabel Guerra-Librero y Blas
Ballesteros, pero ninguno de
los dos políticos comparede-
ron a la dta. Tampoco el dele-
gado de Urbanismo, Rafael
Carmona, ha ofreddo los datos
requeridos sobre las obras a
diez días de su inicio.
The tremendous growth of cities and
built-up areas has resulted in an
environment totally dependent on
regulations, encouraging people to
invent new ways of using and gov-
erning the city environment.
Throughout human history, the
nature of cities has largely been
created unconsciously by its inhabi-
tants. In spite of this, the recent
need for increased urban growth has
resulted in the deliberate widening of
streets and the creation of visual per-
spectives to facilitate the access of
official bodies and increased surveil-
lance. The question remaining is; is it
still possible for individuals to
approach the freedom they once
enjoyed in the making of their own
city environment? Can the framework
of planning regulations be navigated
to secure a living solution that
reflects the variety of the present
time?
In order to protect old districts, many
city authorities have chosen to close
streets to vehicular traffic and allow
only pedestrian access. On the other
hand, to preserve the district image
residents are compelled to retain the
original colours of their homes, use
certain building materials and solu-
tions, and rebuild according to
defined rules. This results in a con-
siderable limitation of the activities of
the inhabitants within the spaces of
traditional city environments. This
describes a completely different atti-
tude compared to the lifestyle of law-
makers who have complete freedom
in how they dress, style their hair,
motor, use mobile phones, tattoo,
and who can even deny ideological
and cultural dogmas at will. The free-
dom city residents previously had to
alter their homes and their nearest
environment has now been radically
curtailed. Their wishes to change this
environment are completely refused if
they do not comply with previousl
ordained rules and regulations, and
building permits are immediately
