Berms
Seperated berms are located
between Fjarðaál and the mainroad
to Eskifjörður to ease down the
appearance of the over-1 km-long
buildings and reduce their impact on
their surroundings. Their forms will
evoke the basalt layers of the moun-
tainside. Rocks will be placed in
skewed rows with intervals symbolis-
ing and harmonising with the moun-
tainside opposite the fjord.
Between the berms there will be
meadows of natural vegetation with
randomly planted groves of birch.

Ponds
ln addition to their environmental
value, the settling ponds have a visu-
al impact which will be enhanced
through planting and edge treat-
ments, especially the ones around
the entrance. Wherever possible,
natural riverbeds will be used, for
example the original riverbeds are
used to channel water from the set-
tling pools into the ocean. ■
