legislation.
From 1936 to 1955 Thorfinnson was
extension soil conservationist at the
University of Minnesota. After his re-
tirement he became executive secretary
of the Minnesota State Soil Conserv-
ation committee.
In 1954, he spent six months in Ice-
land, introducing 4-H club work and
advising on fertilizer use and soil con-
servation.
He and his wife live at 1330 Simpson
St., St. Paul. They have a son, a daugh-
ter and six grandchildren.
The Icelandic Canadian extends
congratulations to Matthias Thorfinn-
son and hopes that in the not distant
future it will hear from him in re-
gard to his very important work in
connection with soil conservation.

REGIONAL LIAISON OFFICER
Arni Arnason, born in Leslie, Sask-
achewan, has for the last two years
been Regional Liaison Officer, at Sask-
atoon, of the Citizenship Branch of
the Department of Citizenship and
Immigration. The Branch has a num-
ber of Liaison Officers in different
parts of Canada. Their work, accord-
ing to Mr. Arnason is, “a liaison be-
tween various groups and individuals
who are concerned with mutual com-
munity problems.” Their work is
exceedingly important in all cosmopol-
itan centres and it was in Winnipeg
where Mr. Arnason saw the need of
such service.
When Arni was still a small boy his
family moved to Winnipeg where he
obtained his elementary and univer-
sity education. On graduation he at-
tended the Provincial Normal School,
