ROLL CALL
Next Tuesday, November 11,
the annual Red Cross Roll Call
opens for a period of three
weeks during which time funds
are solicited throughout the
United States to carry on work
of this great organization.
Miles from their home sho-
res, but close in thoughts, the
American troops in Iceland
are to participate in this cam-
paign. It is a privilege much
desired and one which should
receive the support of the en-
tire command.
The Red Cross has appro-
priated funds amounting to
nearly $100,000 for the forces
stationed at this northern At-
lantic outpost and their offi-
cials are making studies of our
needs to provide even greater
recreational facilities. This in
addition to the numerous ser-
vices already rendered sol-
diers, marines and sailors here
gives us a warm feeling of
friendship for this organiza-
tion of mercy.
Nor do we need point to
present times to cite the work
of the Red Cross. Veterans of
the service will be able to re-
call numerous instances of
help rendered them, their fa-
milies and thousands of the
unknown. Many worked side
by side with the Red Cross in
alleviating suffering and hard-
ships such as the great floods
of 1937 and have a first hand
knowledge of its service, and
its need.
Our commander-in-chief,
Franklin D. Roosevelt, is also
president of the American Red
Cross. He has repeatedly ap-
pealed to the people in its be-
half and has himself directed
much of the work.
When, at the end of the Call
our donation is sent hack
to the states, American will be
reminded once more ojjr
thoughts are with them.
Iceland’s contribution to the
Royal Air Force is Flight Sgt.
Thorsteinn Elton Snsebjorns-
son, of Reykjavik,
Twenty years old Snaebjorns-
son left Reykjavik in March
on a trawler for England, re-
ceived his flight training, and
is now active in Britain’s air
offensive over the Continent.
The flier was in school in
Akureyri last year. His mother,
now dead, was English, and
his father is owner of the Eng-
lish book store in Reykjavik.
ICELAND OPENS
U.S. LEGATION
WASHINGTON. — Iceland
has arranged for the opening
of a legation ill Washington.
The legation will he headed by
Thor Thors, formerly Iceland-
ic Consul-General in New
York. The United Slates has
a Minister in Iceland, Lincoln
Mac Veagh, who formerly was
minister to Greece.
Dog-Gone ?
Wilmington (UP.)—The pro-
prietor of Tubman’s junkyard
was having trouble with thie-
ves so he bought a watchdog
to guard his property.
He was Lenient with the
pooch when soon afterwards
a man made off with a quan-
tity of copper wire. But when
the thief came back and stole
the collar off the dog’s neck,
he reported the incident to the
police,

PERSONAL PRONOUNS
(Cont’d).
The Icelandic reflexive pro-
noun “sig” is the equivalent of
the English himself, herself, it-
self, and themselves. The ac-
cusative case is “sig”, the dat-
ive “ser”, the genetive “sin”.
It does not occur in the nom-
inative case. When referring
to the English myself or itself
one uses the Icelandic “sjalf-
ur”. Usage of the Personal
Pronouns is exemplified in the
succeeding exercise.
