ferðin er þó enn í dag rétt og fagleg umönnun og þar
eykst vitneskjan einnig hröðum skrefum. Horft er
meira á það sem einstaklingurinn getur þrátt fyrir
skerðingu og kalla það fram.
Hvað meðferð geðrænna einkenna og sjúkdóma
snertir, þá svarar eldra fólk eins vel meðferð og yngra
fólk, bæði lyfja-og samtalsmeðferð. Því er kannski enn
alvarlegra að greina ekki slíkt.
Eins og heilsugæslan starfar í dag er ekki almennt
leitað að sjúkdómum meðal skjólstæðinga, heldur leyst
úr því sem fólk greinir frá. Því eru upplýsingar og
fræðsla til almennings um einkenni og meðferðar-
möguleika eitt af mikilvægari viðfangsefnum til að
greina og bæta líðan eldra fólks með geðræn einkenni
og skerta vitræna getu.

Öldrunarfræðafélag Íslands fyrir námstefnu í
húsi Endurmenntunarstofnunar Háskóla
Íslands við Dunhaga í Reykjavík. Námstefnan
ber yfirskriftina: Búseta aldraðra í nútíð og
framtíð – Mismunandi búsetuform og þróun
þeirra.
Námstefnan er öllum opin, einkum
fagfólki á sviði öldrunar- og félagsþjónustu.
Fjallað verður um þróun á búsetuformi
aldraðra, sjálfstæði aldraðra og breytingar á
lífsháttum í kjölfar breyttrar búsetu. Dæmi
verður tekið af hjúkrunarheimili
framtíðarinnar og fjallað um stuðning við
ákvæði laga um að fóki skuli gert kleift að
dvelja heima eins lengi og hægt er og um
samþættingu þjónustu við aldraða og yngra
fólk.
