Insurance Companies on NAS Keflavik
Many defense force members that had car insur-
ance with Sjova recently received a letter from
Vordur advising that the sales office at the Taxi
Stand had changed corporate names; therefore they
needed to come to the Taxi Stand and fill out paper-
work to maintain their insurance. Those who went to
the Taxi Stand and filled out paperwork transferred
their coverage from Sjova to Vordur. Meanwhile
Sjova relocated its on-base office from the Taxi
Stand to Building 2314 (the IPC headquarters
building). Currently, there are now three insurance
companies operating on NASKEF: VIS in the air ter-
minal (Building 782), Vordur in the Taxi Stand, and
Sjova in the IPC headquarters (Building 2314). As a
reminder, most Icelandic insurance policies require
renewal in March and October.

High School early withdrawal and acceleration
As the end of the school year approaches, many
families are planning for pending permanent chang-
es of station (PCS) and/or vacations. DoDDS has
policies and procedures for both events to assist
parents in placing school attendance high on the
agenda when making transition and vacation plans.
DoDDS Europe asks that parents coordinate with
us in advance to arrange make-up work and to dis-
cuss the timing and any conflicts that may impact
negatively on a student’s success (standardized test-
ing, finals, special events).
The provision for permitting the early withdrawal
of students with full Carnegie credit was based on
careful consideration of the unique circumstances
found in the DoDDS system. It recognizes that due
to the military necessity, families are occasionally
required to move prior to the end of the school year.
The 20-day limit provides reasonable flexibility
without compromising academic standards.
The policy requires verification of their sponsor’s
departure date, i.e., PCS or other official orders,
Page 2
in order to receive consideration for full academic
credit. Students who withdraw prior to the 20-day
limit receive a “withdrawal” grade rather than a final
grade and credit.
The earliest date to leave with credit is May 18.
Applications for acceleration must be received 30
days in advance of the withdrawal date. This early
withdrawal and acceleration is for PCS moves only.
Contact the High School at 7008 for more info.
Dayroom Notice
Recently there have been an increased number of
incidents involving base residents in unsecured day-
rooms and storage areas. In the interest of the safety
and well-being of our base population it is asked
that everyone be proactive in keeping dayrooms and
storage areas secured when not in use. Additionally,
there should be a reminder posted in each stairwell
to enlist the help of all residents in this matter.
