Vollegball plagoffs The Intramural Volleyball playoffs came to a dramatic conclusion Saturday as VP-23 defeated IDF/CFK in two straight matches to win the men's champ- ionship. The Seahawks had eli- minated NAVFAC, 15-9, 15-7 ear- lier Saturday to advance to the title game. IDF/CFK took a more direct route to the final as Thurs- day's 15-8, 15-5 win over a de- pleted Seahawk team advanced them to the championship game. VP-23 went into the final need- ing two victories to win the double elimination tournament. The Sea- hawks were up to the task in the first match as they smoked out their rivals in two games, 15-5, 15-5. The win set up a winner- take-all match for the intramural crown. VP-23 kept up the momen- tum in the first game as player- coach Jack Geotz put on a relent- less exhibit of power volleyball to lead the Seahawks 15-7. In the second game, IDF/CFK finally got untracked as Mark Heuser and Billy Kalina connected for timely spikes. But the Seahawks team- work and communication proved to be an unbeatable combination as they held on for the champion- ship, 15-12. IDF/CFK played for the CO-ED crown against AIMD Friday. In the first game they had all cylinders running together as they bom- barded AIMD 15-2. But things can change quickly in volleyball and AIMD wasn't about to fold their hand as they came back to tie the match with a tight 15-11 win. IDF/CFK wasn't frazzled and in the third game everything went their way. Experience was the key, as players like Nancy Stover, Vicki Nicholas and Bruce Smith helped IDF/CFK blast their way to the CO-ED championship 15-0. Softball action Intramural Softball kicked off this past week as 28 teams began a quest that each squad hopes will end up as a championship season. In the A-league after one week of play, the 57th FIS (1) con- tinues to duplicate their pre- season tournament performance. Saturday's tight 7-5 win over their command rivals, the 57th FIS Scrubbs, lifted their record to 4-0. One game behind at 3-0 stands NAS Supply. They ended their week Friday by disposing of Weapons/EOD 12-7. Rockville finished the week in third at 3-1 followed by a group of five teams at 2-1. Meanwhile the Cryptdocs top the B-league leader board after one week. They improved their mark to 4-0 Saturday, as they clubbed NAS Security 11-4. PSD is one game behind at 3-0 as they edged the 4557th SP's 4-3 Friday night. Also at 3-0 stands VP-23-0 and the 960th AWACS. VP-23 shut out High School 11-0 Friday while the AWACS also turned the trick against the Marines 7-0.
