Keflavik News of the Week

TROOPING THE LINE—Commander-in-
Chief, Atlantic, Royal Navy, Adm. Sir
Wilfred Woods, arrived at the Keflavik
Naval Station on the afternoon of Nov-
ember 15 for a routine visit. Adm. Woods
and Marine Corps Captain A.J. Castellana
inspect the Marine Honor Guard.
CAPT. J. W. Murphy, Chief of
Staff for COMBARFORLANT, pre-
sents a certificate and his con-
gratulations to O. P. Vitca, SKI,
upo nhis advancement in rating on
November 16. He also awarded ad-
vancement certificates to seven
other BARFORLANT men. They
were: W. Baechelen, DM3; J. J.
Drey, YN3; M. E. Halterman, A03;
D. B. Kutcheid, YN3; T. A. Scott,
RD3; C. P. Walton, PH3; and A. W.
i Daigneau, RD2.

MARINE BARRACKS
Gunnery Sergeant Glen C.
Hendricks reenlisted in the U.S.
Marine Corps for the fourth
time on November 17, 1962, dur-
ing a ceremony held at the
Marine Barracks.
During WWII Sergeant Hen-
dricks served with the 3rd Mar-
ine Division which saw action
in the South Pacific at Guam,
Bougainvlle and Iwo Jima.
One of the most interesting
highlights of his career was
during the period immediately
folloying WWII when he served
in Tientsin, China, playing Chin-
ese checkers and helping in the
repatriation of Japanese prison-
ers of war.
Sergeant Hendricks served
with the 1st Marine Division
in Korea during the period
1951-1952 and while there re-
ceived a citation for saving a
serviceman’s life .... his own.
Sergeant Hendricks reported
aboard in July of this year and
is the Supply Sergeant of the
Marine Barracks.
McDaniel, AMHC
Five “boot” chiefs, who faced
charges ranging from impersonat-
ing a chief petty officer to making
statements that they would square
away existing chief petty officers,
were found guilty at a mock trial
held Nov. 16.
The guilty were: D. L. Mc-
Daniel, AMHC; G. Alves, SKC;
D. B. Felker, CEC; R. B. Inman,
QMC and L. F. Land, RMC.
The “boot” chiefs were arrested
and brought to court by Sheriff
“Uncle Sheddy” Shaddix, BMC,
where charges were read by “pros-
ecuter “Never” Lose Hogan, YNC.
The Honorable “Hangum”
Wood, SKC, presided, while the
prosecutor assisted by the defense
fought to have the new chiefs
found guilty of the charges.
In addition to imposing stiff
fines on the five “boots” Judge
Wood fined himself and 14 court-
room spectators for contempt of
court.
Judge Wood expressed apprecia-
tion to the Keflavik Civilian Club
