The citation accompanying the
medal stated that Rear Adm.
Moore had demonstrated excep-
tional leadership and superior
political acumen during that per-
iod, leading the forces under his
command to perform their duties
in an exceptional manner and im-
proving vastly the harmony and
good relationship between the
people of Iceland and the United
States.
Upon receiving the medal, Rear
Adm. Moore spoke again to the
audience and expressed his grati-
tude for the support he received
from the Defense Force and from
the people of Iceland. Following
the ceremony, Rear Adm. and
Mrs. Moore passed among the
guests, saying a final goodbye to
their friends.
