News You Can Use bringing Viking displays and will perform Chapel of Light • The chapel is collecting shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. If you have any extra shoeboxes in your home, please drop them off at the chapel. Deadline is Nov. 14. • CCD meets at 11 a.m. every Sunday in the high school. • Sunday School meets at 9:45 a.m. every Sunday in the high school. • The Spaghetti Dinner Ministry will be serving VP-45 from 5-6 p.m., Nov. 17 at BEQ 745. • A Spanish Potluck hosted by the Roman Catholic congregation will be held following evening mass on Nov. 13 at the chapel. • The chapel is seeking a Jewish Layleader to join the command religious program and offer worship opportunities to our Jewish personnel. Family Service Center • The next Parenting-Made-Simple work- shop will be from noon - 1 p.m., Nov. 15 at the FSC. People attending this workshop are welcome to bring a lunch. The workshop will present strategies that will help take the stress out of being a parent. • Spouse Employment Orientation is offered from 12:30 - 1 p.m. every Wednesday at the chapel. This workshop will introduce participants to the employ- ment offices on base, job openings, and the application process. • The next Sponsor Training workshop will be held from 9-11 a.m., Nov. 18 at the FSC. Navv College • Navy College has announced the follow- ing testing schedule: CLEP, DSST, RCEP Objective Testing - Nov. 16 and 7:50 a.m. and 12:50 p.m., Dec. 7. SAT/ACT Assessment - Nov. 23 and Dec. 14. GRE Subject - Dec. 13 (must pre-register by Oct. 28). Praxis - Nov. 18, Jan. 14 (must pre-regis- ter by Nov. 23). RCEP Extended Response - Feb. 4 (must pre-register by Dec. 16). GED Testing - as needed. All tests are in Bldg. 349, room 109. Check in time is 7:50 a.m. and testing begins at 8 a.m. in Bldg. 349, Room 109. Active duty military and reserve personnel test for free on most exams, but may have to pay a registration fee. Civilians pay for registration and exam fees based on which test is taken. Some retests are not funded for active duty person- nel and reservists. • The next Education Advisory Council (EAC) meeting will be held at 2 p.m., Dec. 1 in the NAS Conference Room, Bldg. 752. Agenda items may be added by calling ext. 6226. American Education week The week of Nov. 14 is dedicated to American education. The theme this year is "Students Today, Leaders Tomorrow." Please take a moment to reflect and talk to your children on the importance of educa- tion in your life and in your children's. Teachers celebrate this week with renewed dedication to their profession. uso • The USO Gift Shop is having a Hard Rock Cafe sale during November. • The USO Christmas Market is Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to I p.m. at the Three Flags Club. Many Icelandic vendors will display their merchandise. Gunnar Eyjalfsson is storytelling dramas and Icelandic folk music. Sponsored by the mall in Hafnafjordur and the Tourist Information Center, Runar Juliusson will also be there performing with his acoustic guitar. There will be something for everyone. For more information call the USO at ext. 6113. Library Storvtime The Base Library holds preschool story- time every Thursday at 10 a.m. This month’s themes are autumn colors and spooky things. Call ext. 4510 for more information. Craft Fair The NAS Keflavfk Crafters’ Association is holding a craft fair from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Nov. 13 at the Community Center. Table reservations are free. There will be wood crafts, scrapbooking, painted glass, candles, country crafts, books and much more! If you are interested in reserving a table call Cindy at ext. 2966 or email anning@mwr.is. Commissary The Commissary will be closed Nov. 25 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The store will be open normal hours on Nov. 26. Cultural Awareness The Cultural Awareness Committee is sponsoring a talent show from 7-9 p.m., Nov. 17 at Andrews Theater. Tickets are $4 for ages 13 and up, $ 1 for five - 12, and four and under get in free. Proceeds from the tal- ent show will be used to subsidize the Native American Luncheon. The Native American Luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m, Nov. 18 at the Three Flags Club. The price is $5 in advance or $9 at the door.
