5 Two men in diving suits (above) ride one of the British secret weapons, the “human tor- pedo.” London recently announced that the device is guided near a target by the two men, who then set off the explosive charge with a time fuse and then ride the propulsive part to safety. Wayne Lonergan (bare-headed above) sits between detectives en route to Sing Sing prison from New York City after he had been sentenced to 35 years to life for the slaying last October of his wife, Patricia Burton Lonergan.
