2 DAILY POST Heavlest attack yet made on Berlin. LONDON, APRIL 18th. Last night British bombers made a det- ermined attack txn tangets in Berlin. A gtreat n/ttmber of paweiful bombs was dropp- ed and the damage is sald to have Jbeen considerable. (The German commtuniqué admits that strong enemy fiormations sacceeded In pe- netrating the anti-aircraft barrage of Berlin. Duriing a tour of inspection of civil :le- fenoes today Mr. Morrison said that the bombs dnopped on Berlin last night had been of the new type which has ifive times the biasting power of the old type. He said that London had went through the ordea'! of what was intended to be the .heaviest attack on that city, and onoe again the Londoners had proved what magnificent stluff they were made of. The British !had not bombed Berl.in as a retaliation fo'r fthe attack on London. ALl raids carried out by the R. A. F. were made aocording to plan. PORTSMOUTH RAIDED LONDON, APRIL 18th. At least two enemy bombers were destroy- ed last night over Britain, when the main attack was on Portsmiouth. The attack wias fairiy heavy but fortunately there were not many casualties. There were isolated incddents in other parts of the oountry and Londoii had |two brief a'.erts. \ Earity this morning a Görman bomber caime down off' the ooast of Eire, iwiithin territotial waters. Later the bomber sank and the crew of six was interned. ' DAYLIGHT ATTACKS ON CHERBOURG AND ENEMY SHIPPING LONDON, APRIL 18th. •To-day three bombers squadrons made an attack on Cherboiurg. The enemy was taken by surprisc and no Nazi planes camé up to interfere with the bombers. Bo'mbers of the Costal Oommand have oontinued their attacks on enemy merchant vessels. During the day at least two Jiave been sunk and several damaged. Last night enemy ootíupded towns in Hol- land felt the weight of the British íattack. In addition raids were made on Oologne and other German oities. A new Sterling bomber came into aotion for the first time in the attaick «n Berlin. It has four en'gines and carries an enormous load of bombs. GERMANS IN LIBYA ON THE DEFENSIVE LONDON, APRIL 18th. The Cairo oommuniqué states that the enemy has suffered many casualltifes In men and miaterial in the vioinity of Tobruk,- Further five enemy offioeírs and 72 other ranks have been captured. The German drive seems to have stopped for the time Ibeing, and the Gennian troops at Tobruk and SoTluim are on the defensive just now- ( R. A. F. bombers have repeatedly bomb- ed landing grounds, troops tanks, motoir transport and stores. Several eneany planes have been shot down. Brittish troops in Abyssinia are now in oorutact with the enemy at Dessye. At other points British and Imperial foroes are mak- ing steady progress. Many more prtsoners have been oaptuired, including a wounded Italian general. The patriot army is inoreasing its activity. British Forces’Broadcasts Sunday. Studio orchestra, directed by Spr.
