“FOLK LORE” ASKS:—
Many of us in the past have
been stumped over the “Oracle
cf Delphi”. Can you give me a
íairly descriptive explanation
of this oracle please. What are
the Pythian games?
Delphi is a town in ancient
Greece in Phocis, at the foot of
Parnassus where Apollo had
his temple. Here he was wont
to issue his oracles by the
mouth of his priestess Pythia,
who when receiving the oracle
used to sit on a tripod over an I
opening in the ground through
which an intoxicating vapour
exhaled, which was deemed the
breath of the God, and which
proved the vehicle of her in-
spiration. The Pythian games
were celebrated in the neigh-
bourhood. — Do I make myself
clear?

reported by our C.-in-C. in tbfe
Mediterranean, scored by one
of our submarines against ene-
my naval forces.
Shortly before dark yester-
day one of our submarines in
the central Mediterranean
spotted 3 Italian cruisers,
heavily screened by destroyers,
going south at high speed. The
submarine let go at one of the
enemy’s cruicers, and three
hits were registered. Because
of a rough sea the exact results
could not be observed, but
there is practically no doubt
that the cruiser was sunk, as a
violent explosion was heard a
few minutes later.
