You've been enjoying her art, now
come learn about the history behind
it.
Sigrun Lara Shanko will be at the
Geysir Room on Wednesday, Aug.
24, at 7 p.m. to teach us about
the ancient Viking Sagas. This is
a great opportunity to learn some
of the history of the first settlers to
Iceland.
She will have several of her pillows
and scarves with her.
Her artwork, which will be in the
Geysir Room until Aug. 31, is both
educational and inspirational.
Aug. 20 is Culture Day in Reykjavik.
This is one of the biggest celebra-
tions of the year. There will be
amusement rides and art contests
for the children. You can enjoy con-
certs in the streets, the shops, the
galleries and the two major banks
throughout the day and evening.
The shops will be open until 11
p.m., and most of them will be serv-
ing refreshments. At 11:15 p.m.,
to top off the day, will be a fabulous
fireworks show over the bay.
It will be a fun day for the family,
and a great evening for the grown-
ups. Most of the children's activities
end about 4:00pm.
Seth Sharp and the Black Clock
Jazz Band will be performing on the
base on Aug. 27 from 8 until 11
p.m.
MWR's Three Flags Club is putting
on a special evening with Cajun hors
d'oeuvres in the Ballroom, and the
Arts Council is sponsoring the band
with the support we have already
received from the community and
the Rotary Club. It's time to chill
out with a little smooth jazz.
