SSgt. Goodman winner of
Air Force talent contest
Staff Sergeant Thomas H. Goodman, 667th AC&W Squadron, Hofn, took first
place honors in the folk singing category at First Air Force Talent Contest
held at Suffolk County AFB, N.Y., during July.
His rendition of “Talking World
War III” and “Lay, Lady Lay” earned
him the first place honor in this cate-
gory. He also achieved a second
place award for a harmonica solo.
After notching the first place posi-
tion, SSgt. Goodman went to compete
in the Aerospace Defense Command
Talent Contest at Perrin AFB, Texas.
There the judges gave him first place
in the instrumental solo class and a
second place for the Sergeant’s folk
singing efforts.
The climax of the contest was the
World-Wide Air Force Talent Contest
at Edwards AFB, Calif., where all of
the Air Force commands participated
as a group. Although, the Aerospace
Defense Command did not place;
Sergeant Goodman received honorable
mention for his individual performance.

New service begins next week
Beginning in next week’s White
Falcon, we will introduce a new
classified advertising page in the
paper. This new service will be
available to all military personnel,
all U.S. civilian employees, and the
dependents of each group.
The new section will contain per-
sonal ads for items offered for sale,
for swap, and giveaways. Addition-
ally, “wanted items”, such as re-
quests for auto parts, requests for
babysitters, etc., will also be car-
ried. Items considered as offering
“services”, however, will NOT be
run.
Also included will be a section
listing houses and apartments for
rent in the local area.
This new service will take the
place of ads currently being carried
on 1484’s Bulletin Board. Effective
today, August 22, Bulletin Board
will feature special notices and
announcements of club activities.
Deadline for all want ads is 4 p.m.
Tuesday of the Friday the paper
comes out. For example, the dead-
line is 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 26,
for the first edition to carry classi-
fied ads -- Friday, August 29. All
ads must be submitted in writing on
an advertisement form available in
the White Falcon office. No ads
will be accepted over the telephone.
Ads will be run for one week only.
If ads are to be rerun, a complete
new form must be submitted.
O' Wives hold August
'hall and blast ‘ tea
The Officers Wives Club, “Hail and
Bless” tea for August was held last
week honoring two ladies departing
and eight new arrivals at the naval
station.
Departing and “blessed” were
Thelma Hart and Eleanor Sims. Those
“hailed” were Miriam Thomas, Mary
Sowers, Sharon Hayes, Betty Bader,
Addie Autry, Joan Weaver, Louise
Tayloe and Mary Sherman.
Mrs. Hart was presented with a set
of Icelandic silver serving spoons and
the traditional Icelandic ceramic tray,
in recognition of her outstanding ser-
vice to the club, by Betsy Donnor, the
club president.
Baking for this special tea were,
Joan Sheets, Frankie Longbottom,
Kris Pens el, Nancy Mills, Patsy Notts,
Sally Loyd, Lucille Williams and Betty
Rhodes. Social chairman and assis-
tant chairman for the event was Elsa
Sherman and Fran McLaughlin.
