Slow-pitch tournament
VP-24 eliminates Supply, 10-9
VP-24 downed Supply 10-9 last Saturday in post-season slow-pitch tourna-
ment action. The loss eliminated Supply from the tournament while VP-24,
having previously lost to Security, moved on to upset top-rated Hospital in
the losers bracket.
In the opening frame Supply took a
2-0 lead when Brian Gallipo and Ed
Harmdienks connected on a pair of
back to back singles and then both
men scored on a hit by Tom Braden.
VP-24 went scoreless in the inning.
Supply made it 3-0 in the second
stanza when Dutch Hartman scored
on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by
Siggy Sigman. However, VP came up
with two runs in the bottom of the
inning to stay in the game.
Supply got one more ran across in
the fourth inning when Harmdienks
scored his second ran on a base-hit
by Bruden. But the squadron pushed
across two runs on their next time at
bat to even the score at 4-4.
In the fourth Supply gained a knotch
on VP-24 but the squadron tied the
score once again at 5-5 their next
time at bat. VP-24 took the lead for
the first time as they retired Supply
in order and then came up with the
go-ahead ran when Tom Euing scored
on a hit by Jim Jaramelli.
In the sixth the lead switched hands
once again as Supply took advantage
of three hits and a VP fielding-lapse
accounting for three runs. VP-24
promptly retaliated with three runs of
their own.
Supply was in a desperate situation
in the seventh inning trailing, 8-9.
Brian Gallipo came through in the
clutch for Supply when he connected
with a four-bagger enabling Supply to
regain the lead but VP bounced right
back to win the game on a hit by
James McElhanny that drove in Bill
Terry. ______________________________
