Mahan will conduct*
split session classes
The A. T. Mahan School will open
its doors for the 1969/1970 term on
Monday, August 25. This will be a
fujl day of school for all students,
and lunch will be served in the school
cafetorium.
This year, for the first time, the
school will be on split sessions for
grades 1-3. This has come about as
a result of increased enrollment and
the addition of extra staff members.
New -departments have been added
this year; for the first time the school
will have a full-time speech/hearing
therapist, an elementary counselor,
a high school principal, and a high
school librarian. This is in addition
to the remedial reading department
and the special education teacher
which were added last year.
With the advent of the split ses-
sions, students will benefit through
smaller classrooms, allowing more
individual attention by the classroom
teacher. As soon as the present
quonset hut renovation project is
complete, the split session classes
will be placed on the normal daily'
schedule. Students will remain in
the same class groups with the same
teachers when this transfer is made.
Every effort has been made to keep
members of the same family in the
same split session time block. (If an
error has been made here, please call
Ext. .4242.) The time schedule for
grades 1-3 is: morning session, 7:45
to 11:45 a.m. and afternoon session,
12:45 to 4:45 p.m. There will be both
on- and off-station busses to meet
this time schedule.
Kindergarten will be held this year
in the elementary school. The time
schedule for Kindergarten is: morning
session, 9:30 a.m. til noon, and after-
noon session, 1:15 to 3:45 p.m. The
time schedule for grades 4-6 is 9 a.m.
to 3:05 p. m. Grades 7-12 will meet
from 8:45 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. I
All busses will make the same
route schedule for the first two days
of school. Necessary changes will
be made in this routing starting the
third school day.
A list of classroom assignments for
Kindergarten and grades 1-3 is posted
at the entrance to the elementary
school, the base exchange foyer and
the base gym.
