retires alter a
24 year-service
Lt. Thomas Owens,Fleet Weather
Facility XO, has decided to make
his tour of duty in Iceland his
last, thereby concluding a 24
year career in
the Navy.
Accompanied by
his wife,
Sonja, and
three teenage
daugh t e r s;
Donna, Anita
and Nora Lee,
he intends to
s e t t 1 e in
Orlando, Fla.
Lt. Owens started his career
with the Navy in 1948 and pro-
gressed through the ranks making
Chief Petty Officer before ob-
taining his B.S. degree in Phy-
sics at the University of Louis-
ville through the NESEP program.
Commissioned an Ensign in 1961,
he served with VF-13 and then
with FS-13 before attending the
Naval Postgraduate School, Monte-
rey, Cal. in order to obtain his
M.S. in Meteorology.
Upon graduating from the Post-
graduate School he reported to
U.S. Fleet Weather Facility,
Keflavik. The Owens family will
be departing Keflavik on Dec. 7
and will be missed by all his
friends in Iceland. From his
friends at Fleet Weather, "Fare-
well and smooth sailing!"

• RADIO STATION NEEDS TO HEAR MORE VOICES: The American For-
ces Radio Station here is searching for people. Especially needed
are those not "designated" for a particular military job who could
be trained for full-time radio work, but part-timers are needed,
also. You don’t have to have a voice like Roger Carroll's, but it
should be easily understandable. Any type of experience in acting
is often helpful, as is a strong interest in music. If in-
terested, contact J02 Tom Wiecks at 4193 during normal working
hours.
• HOLIDAY TELEPHONE CALLS OVERSEAS: Every year during the
Christmas holidays the use of the telephone system for placing
calls to the states increases. In order to provide the best pos-
sible service to personnel at Keflavik, the NavSta Telephone Ex-
change is taking appointments for Christmas calls. Reservations
must be made in advance through the overseas operator in order to
place these calls. If you desire to call the states on Dec. 24,
25, 26, 31 or on Jan. 1, please call the Chief Telephone Operator
at Ext. 3200 during normal working hours. The final date for mak-
ing reservations will be Dec. 15. After you have made your reser-
vation you must reconfirm it the day before you make the call.
• RADIO ON AFTV?: When is a television station not a televi-
sion station? When it's a radio station. American Forces Televi-
sion here now offers a music format from 8 a.m. until sign-on
This easy listening and folk-type music will only be interrupted
every hour on the hour for news.
SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE AND AMERICAN COLLEGE TESTS: The Sc
astic Aptitude Test will be administered at 8 a.m. tomorrow at
A. T. Mahan High School library, across from the House Gym. Late
arrivals will not be admitted and you must bring your proper I.D.
and admittance slip. The American College Test will be adminis-
tered at 8 a.m. Dec. 11, also at the school library. Requirements
for this test are the same as
for the Scholastic Aptitude.
• SCOUTS OF THE MONTH: The
local Boy Scout Troops and Cub
Scout Packs are now recognizing
their outstanding Scouts of the
