An All-Star zeros in on the basket during Mondag's Ambassador Cup
Series contest against the Icelandic Urval sguad. Urval won the game
with a convincing 9^ to 72 tally. The final event of the series will
take place in the base gym tonight at 6 p.m. A trophy presentation
will immediately follow the game.
Netball league leaders remain at top
Here are the standings of this
week's base volleyball action in
each league. AIMD remains on top
of the A League with an 8-0 re-
cord. CFK is second with 8-1,
followed by Marines 6-3, 57th FIS
5-2, and HS I even at 4-4.
In B League, Det 14 stays on
top with 13-1. PW is next with a
12-2 tally. AFI is third with
7-2, and NSGA and Hospital trail
with 9-3 and 8-4 scores respec-
tively.
The Bombers have taken over
the Mixed Doubles League leader-
ship with an amazing 14-1 record.
Pride and Unisex are tied for
second place with 10-3 apiece.
Dudes follow with 8-4, Blackbirds
7-4, and It's OK hangs on with a
7-6 count.
Rowdies remain undefeated with
a healthy 6-0 tally in the La-
dies' League. Uncolas are next
in line with 5-1, Reelers and
Darlings 4-1 each, and the Black
Marias close up with 4-2.
Basketball dominates
service sports scene
In the All-Navy Basketball
Tournament recently held in San
Diego, South Atlantic Command
took the championship by crushing
West-Pac 106 to 86.
Meanwhile, the Interservice
Basketball Tourney at the Marine
base of 29 Palms, CA., saw Army
take the top honors by defeating
both the Navy and Marine Corps
squads. Air Force did not par-
ticipate in the annual event.
Fleet-wide boxing
champs decided
At the Navywide Boxing Champi-
onships held last month in Little
Creek, VA., winners were crowned
in 11 weight classes. At 106
lbs., the winner was Danilo
Ceraldo from USS Coral Sea. Top
laurels in the 112 lbs. event
went to Robert Mulvenna from NAS
Norfolk. Rich Dean from USS Con-
stellation took the 119 lbs.
crown. At 125 lbs., it was Mike
Johnson from NAS Alameda. Larry
Smith from USS Newport News won
in the 132 lbs. class. At 139
lbs., the winner.was Sammy Davis
from USS America. Number one in
the 147 lbs. class was Ruben
Nuncio from USS Forrestal. At
156 lbs. , Keith Booth was the
winner from USS John F. Kennedy.
Patrick Cuillo from USS America
took top honors at 165 lbs. Andre
Camilo from USS Badger won in the
178 lbs. class. Finally, the
heavyweight title went to Rod
Harris from the Naval Support Ac-
tivity, Long Beach.
