Base team spikes local dub
The NATO base volleyball team de-
feated the Vikingur Sports Club of Reyk-
javik four games to one in action at the
A.E. House gym ]ast week. The NATO team
won by scores of 15-11, 15-10, 16-14 and
15-13. The Sports Club's single victory
ended 15-11. Team members for the game
were Jim Bartley, Stan Fish, Steve
Henrickson, Bruce Kennedy, Bill Nicely,
Mike Krawec, Bob Simister, Steve
Steakley, and Rusty Woodrum.
The volleyball team welcomes anyone
to come and try out for the team. New-
comers who want to learn how to play
"power volleyball" are also welcome.
Practice is held every Tuesday and
Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the base
gym. For more information, call ATC
Simister at 4418.
Return golf invitation
The return match with the Ness Golf

the Keflavik Golf Club. Golfers must be

Karate dub dasses begin
The ancient art of Korean karate is
for anyone interested in his health
and personal welfare. The NATO base
Taekwondo Karate club is starting a new
class for beginners. Men, women and
children age 10 and up are welcome. All
interested people should come to the
first class Saturday at 1 p.m. in the
lower school gym. Call Ron Hartman at
4467 for more information.
Wall-ball champs decided
Steve Sniteman and Bob Voeth won the
base doubles paddleball championship by
defeating Walter Hocketstaller and Dick
Plante 21-15, 8-21 and 21-13, in the fi-
nal match. The devastating hits from
Steve proved the dominant factor in the
hard-fought battle.
Intramural paddleball will begin in
November. Any interested units are in-
vited to form teams for both A and B
league competition. Four singles and
two doubles games will constitute a
match. Entries may be made by contact-
ing 5791 or by memo to the Athletic Di-
rector.
Football standings
The NSGA Guardians stormed into the
league championship by swamping NavFac
12-0. Their lightning offense was
sparked by the quarterbacking of John
Dennison and the excellent receiving of
Wes Henson and Bob Kline. An outstand-
ing Guardian defense picked off the Nav-
Fac aerial efforts, forcing a ground
game which proved unsuccessful.
The Marines, however, provided the
NSGA squad with their only black eye of
the season; fighting the Guardians to a
20-14 win in the last game of the year.
Quarterback Dick Levine had a great day
with three touchdown tosses, and the de-
fensive squad punched enough holes in
the Guardians game to throw their ground
gaining bids off balance. It was fine
football, pure and simple, and congratu-
lations to all the participants for the
very competitive season. The victory

LET'S FACE IT, no-handed pie eating can
be a crusty affair. Two Naval Academy
graduates introduced this unofficial
Annapolis tradition to the Marine Bar-
racks as an event in their Field Meet
last Thursday. Each entrant was requir-
ed to consume half a pie with facial
utensils only. When asked for comment,
this enthusiastic contestant remarked,
