Little League sets tryout dates
Top seeded Patterson wins Girls Division
rolloff; Austin remains favorite in Boys
Top-seeded Tammy Patterson defeated
Jennifer Morgan 121-86 to capture first
place in the Junior High Girls Division
Bowling Tournament this past weekend.
Patterson, who finished the tournament
undefeated, never trailed in the cham-
pionship match. Patterson's score
matched her previous high of 121 in her
win in the semi-finals over Ann Thorpe.
In the Boys Division, Niels Austin
continues to be the favorite as he de-
feated third-seeded Chris Cural 201-157
to move into the semi-finals with the
win. Austin has yet to bowl under 200
in the meet and may capture the overall
high series. His opponent in the semi-
finals is Gary Curl who defeated Wayne
Jacobson 135-121. Unseeded Curl, was a
surprise to reach the semi-finals.
In the other semi-final bracket,
Kevin Gilstrap, a dark horse, rates the
favorite on his 222-174 win over Steve
Gaines. Gilstrap has improved and is
consistently bowling over 200 and should
give Austin competition should he reach
the finals. John Mendoza scored a 123-

Tony Felton of the A.T. Mahan Vikings
and Hofdis Austin of the Vikingettes
were chosen as co-holders of basketball
player of the week honor. Tony, a
jounior, poured in 31 points in leading
the Vikings to a 56-52 win over Weather.
Tony came back strong after going idle
for several weeks, recovering from
an injury. He leads his team in scor-
ing.
Hofdis, a freshman, stripped the
nets for 25 points in leading the Vik-
ingnetts to a 30-24 win over NCS.
Hofdis has a deadly outside shot and
is closing in on teammate Robbin
Hollier, the leading scorer in the
ladies basketball league.

finals should find Austin facing
Gilstrap but both Curl and Mendoza are
capable of pulling upsets.
In the Open Division, Don Haviland
continues to lead the field as he defea-
ted Mike Fulgium 142-133. Also reaching
the quarter-finals was Paul Gilstrap,
the second-seeded player who will fur-
nish plenty of competition for Haviland.
Others to reach the quarter-finals were
Robert Blake, Bryce Duchein, Dennis
Farrell, Hafdis Austin and Robert Berry.
Any of them are capable of'winning first
prize in the single elimination tourna-
ment.
In the Consolation Bracket, Scott
Philbrick looks like the man to beat as
he advanced with a 134-120 win over Paul
Thorpe to reach the semi-finals. His
main competition for the title will come
from MikeMonlezun who scored a 115-87
victory over Dan O'Connor in the other
semi-final bracket.
Game of the week
Vikings vs Weather was chosen bas-
ketball game of the week. The Vik-
ings defeated Weather 56-52. Scoring
in double figures for the Vikings were
Don Haviland with 10 and Tony Felton
at 31.
The losing end Don Frantz scored
in 14 points; Charley White 10; Mark
Nierisma 6; Mike Jones with 8 and
Louis Burkhart 10.

Registration and tryout dates have
been set for the 1977 Little League
Association season.
During an executive board meeting held
Saturday, plans were also made for ways
to earn money for the local league. The
board also set dates for opening day
ceremonies and for the start of league
play.
All boys and girls between the ages
of 8 - 15 are eligible to play with the
Little League this year if they will
not be 16-years-old before Aug. 1, 1977.
Registration will be held at The
Youth Center on March 5 and March 12 from
1 to 3 p.m. All registrants must show
proof of age by bringing either a birth
certificate or a passport.
Tryouts will be held on March 19 and
March 26 and will be conducted according
to the player's age. Eight and nine-
year-olds will attend tryouts at noon
on both dates and 10, 11 and 12-year-
The Officers' Wives' Winter Bowling
League finished up the season with the
outcome of team champion coming down to
the final day.
Team Four captained by Sue Mantonya
placed first in the winning over
team six by five games. Team six was
captained by Doris Foy. The suspense
had really built up over the past six
weeks as only a two-game difference
separated the two teams. Team seven
captained by Lila Thorpe placed third
in the league.
Among the awards given out were high
average to Terry Souhrada, finished the

Little League meeting
A general membership meeting will be
held tomorrow at 3 p.m. for all parents
of Little League aged children.
The meeting will be held within the
Air Operations1 Passenger Terminal,
building 814. The purpose of the meet-
tin will be to vote on a newly revised
Little League charter.

The Windbreaker Club announces that
there will be a special 50s - 60sj
night on March 4 from 8 p.m. - 2 a.m.
All of the big hits from the 50s will
be featured.
Club patrons are asked to dress as
they did in the good old days. Prizes
well be given for the most authenic
dress. So come on out to the Wind-
breaker, dance to your favorites, and
remember the good old days.

The CPO Wives Club will hold a Chili
Sale at Hanger 831 on March 1 at 10:30
a.m.

equipment and to replace worn and lost
uniforms.
Among the items discussed were a raf-
fle to be held later this spring and the
possibility of bake sales.
VolunteerL support is also needed dur-
ing the season. Parents may assist the
league by umpiring games, by donating
cakes for bake sales and, most of all,
by attending scheduled games and cheer-
ing for their team.
