Postage machine
Have you ever needed a postage
stamp when the Post Office is closed?
If so, postage stamp vending machines
are located in Barracks 759 as well
as the Navy Lodge for your conveni-
ence.
Barber Shop
The Navy Exchange announces that
the Barber Shop is now fully staffed.
This allows its personnel to offer a
wider array of services to patrons.
Of this selection, hair styling
for authorized patrons will be in-
cluded .
For a hair styling appointment,
call the Crew’s Barber Shop at 7932.
The Barber Shop has set new hours
for the Officers’ Barber Shop. It is
open 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to
4:30 Monday through Friday.
Call 7833 for appointments.
Beaaty Shop
Dale has a special going for Aug-
ust. She will give a free Redken
conditioner with each top-of-the-line
permanent for both men and women
during the "hot" month.
Get a "new" look for fall—perhaps
some easy hairdo that will make you
look good and feel good.
Get a lift that will make you feel
new—drop in at the Navy Exchange
Beauty Shop for that much needed
"perk me up."
Cosmetics representatives
Carolyn Lewis is the Revlon Cos-
metics representative and Pam Hollier
is the Estee’ Lauder Cosmetics repre-
sentative.
You will find Carolyn behind the
counter most afternoons and Pam is
present almost everyday.
These women are specially trained
to give makeup demonstrations and
advice on cosmetics applicable to
all types of skin from normal to
problem skin. .
The ladies represent their re-
spective companies and act on their
behalf.
However, neither one handles cash
for the exchange. They handle the
service in the cosmetic areas but,
when it comes to paying for the pur-
chase, the cash must be handled by
a Navy Exchange salesperson authori-
zed to handle cash.
So, if you are in a hurry, and the
ladies may help but can not take your
money—try to remember that they are
willing to help you in any way they
can within authorization.
Seek out a salesgirl who will be
most happy to complete the transac-
tion for you.
Ethan Allen representative to
visit
The Navy Exchange expects to have
an Ethan Allen furniture representa-
tive to take special orders sometime
during August.
He will be present at the Main
Store to take special orders for
authorized exchange patrons.
The purpose of his visit is to
assimilate orders and send these
to Keflavik via container shipment
for better delivery.
Mini-Mart
The Mini-Mart has continual re-
volving specials. This week it is
Earthborn shampoo and Tetley instant
tea.
Check the Mini-Mart for the varied
and unannounced specials.

by Kristin S. Gilson
Saturday bus tour
The bus tour for Aug. 6 will take you
to Whale Bay. A stop will be made at
the Whaling Station if a whale is in.
From there we will take the road to
the Borgarfjordur district, one of the
most prosperous farming areas in Ice-
land. We pass the openings of the many
Borgarfjordur valleys and visit the edu-
cational center at Reykholt. We continue
over the low hills to the great glacial
river Hvita and follow it upriver to the
woodlands and Husafell which is a popu-
lar camping ground.
Along the way, we see subterranean
streams, cascading out of the great lava
fields into the glacial river.
We continue on the Kaldidalur (Cold
Valley) road among the glaciers of Ok,
Eiriksjokull and Langjokull. Then we
enter the Thingvellir plain from the
north and return through Reykjavik.
Grimsey
We can now offer evening flights to
Grimsey. There are daily departures
from Reykjavik at 9 p.m. A short stop
will made at Siglufjordur and a two-hour
stop at Grimsey, where you can walk
across the Arctic Circle.
On the return flight, you will be
served champagne and receive your "Blue
Nose Certificate." Estimated arrival
time in Reykjavik will be 2 to 3 a.m.
Husavik
If you're looking for a nice, quiet
weekend, Husavik, the oldest Nordic set-
tlement in Iceland, might just be the
place for you.
Husavik has a new modern hotel in the
center of town. Both room with and with-
out private baths are available. Phone,
radio and television facilities are in

spots of the North: Lake Myvatn;
Dettifoss, one of the great waterfalls
in Europe, thundering in a most deso-
late landscape, a sight which one never
forgets; Asbyrgi, the strange horseshoe-
shaped enclosure, which was, according
to legend, formed when the god, Odin,
was riding around on his eight-legged
horse, Sleipnir, and the horse put one
foot down there.

While you may have noticed the
church that towers over Reykjavik,
did you know that the tower is open
daily between 2 and 4 p.m.? If you
are interested in a nice view and
good pictures of the city, making a
stop there is well worth your while.
There is a small charge, but the
money collected is used towards com-
pleting the church.
The statue in front is of Leif
the Lucky, who discovered America in
the year 1000. This statue was a
gift from America.
