In 'B’ League Champs
AFI runs over ComFairKef
Air Forces Iceland B defeated Com-
mander Fleet Air Keflavik, 13-8, to move
into the finals of the 1978 Intramural
Slowpitch Championship Double Elimina-
tion Tourrjament Saturday.
Vying for the coveted honor, the two
top teams from each division fought
bravely to rise in divisional playoffs.
"A" League, composed of ComFairKef/Com-
IceDeFor and Rockville, participated
along with "B" League, represented by
AFI "B" and Detachment 1.
Saturday's opening action pitted
ComFairKef against Det. 1 and AFI "B"
against Rockville in the followup
game.
ComFairKef eased by Det. 1, 12-0,
and AFI "B" barely got by Rockville,
3-2.
The Det. 1 and Rockville losses
then moved the two teams to the
losers bracket, making a victory a
must for either team to win the base
title.
Remaining in the lead, Rockville
eliminated Det. 1 in a closely matched
game, 7-6.
ComFairKef downed Rockville, 15-8,
to gain the edge in the finals, only
to meet the tournament surprise, AFI
"B".
In the championship series, Com-
FairKef scored all but one of its
five runs in the first two innings to
eke out AFI "B", 5-4, bringing their
series to one victory each.
In the final game, AFI "B" regained
the hitting power that had carried
their team throughout the tournament,
scoring eight runs to ComFairKef's
four and winning the base slowpitch
tournament.
