6 White Falcon May 29, 1981 Field of 45 c Forty-five runners competed in the annual Spring Run-Off Monday featuring two and six mile races for men, women and masters. Two Icelanders dominated the men's competition, capturing first place in both the two and six mile run. Viggo Thorisson, with a time of 11:16, beat-out second place finisher Jon Cutress by a slim 15 seconds to take top honors in the two mile event. Jeff Hughes covered the two mile course in 12:09, good enough for third place. Magnus Haraldsson made it a clean sweep for Iceland by winning Set-up Jody Rogers sets for teammate Tony Dolschenko during championship game. Rockville beat the High School 3"1. ompetes in Spring Run-off the six-mile race in the men's category in 34:07. Just three seconds behind in second place was Paul Saucedo at 34:10. Jim Cusie grapped the third best spot, com- pleting the course in 35:31. Janet Villafane was the best among the women competitors in the two mile run with a winning time of 14:59. Sue McCutcheon took second place honors (15:26) while Diane McKinbbens' 17:52 earned her the third best position. Donna Portman had an easy time winning the women's six mile race as she finished more than four minutes ahead of her nearest rival. She clocked in at 45:45. Second place went to Sue Deubell who finished at 49:33. Debbie Millotti was next at 1:01:12. Fred Kjer paced the Masters' two-mile run with a time of 11:20. Jaspar Armwood and Ronald Dickey round out the top three with 12:59 and 13:03 respectively. John Ireland's time of 36:41 earned first place in the Masters' six-mile run. Robert Williamson was second with 39:11, and Jim Hindman finished third with a time of 43:55. SPORTS BEAT Rockville wins Intramural Volleyball Championships The 932nd Rockville Men's volley- ball team downed the High School squad Thursday and captured the 1981 Intramural Volleyball Championships. Rockville lost the first game in the finals, but came back for a 3-1 win over the High School. Rockville entered the finals fairly easily, winning three straight preliminary matches against Public Works, the High School and Com- FairKef. The High School's route to the finals was a bit tougher. They met AFI in the first contest and won, but were setback by Rockville in the second match of the playoffs. The High School team then were moved into the loser's bracket and they defeated their next three opponents. Food Services, AFI and ComFairKef all went down to defeat as the High School team reached the finals. Rockville finished the regular season with a 9-1 mark, tied for the A League title with NavFac. ComFairKef, 8-2, and the High School, 7-3, finished third and fourth. The regular season champs in the B League was AFI with a per- feet 9-0 record. Food Services and the 960th AWACSS tied for second at 6-3, followed by Public Works with a 5-4 record.
