Troop 364 news
by Ken Porter
Due to personnel transfers and summer
vacation, Troop 364 has been less active for the
past several weeks. However, some of the scouts
took vacations back to the States, and the troop was
Invited to an International Scouting Jamboree on the
island of Videy, off the coast of Reykjavik. Five
members of the troop spent the afternoon and
evening with scouts from Iceland, Germany,
Austria, Italy, Australia, Greece, The United
States, Japan and Finland. Brian and Brett Porter
traveled to Virginia to spend the week at Camp
Ottari, a Boy Scout Camp located on the Blue Right
Scout Reservation in western Virginia. The boys
took with them skills they learned in Iceland to
share with the scouts from various parts of
Virginia. While there, Brian and Brett earned
several merit badges and had a great time.
Now that summer is almost over, the troop is
making plans for several outings. The first one
will be a camping trip to Klavavatin (near the
aluminum factory) Aug. 22 through Aug. 24. From
Sept. 19-21 they will be camping at Camp Seaview
(off the NAVFAC road). During this camp all the
Boy Scouts will be providing camping instructions
and cooking demonstrations to the Webelos. During
the evening of the 20th, the troop will hold a Court
of Honor campfire where the scouts will receive
awards, advancements and achievements they have
earned since the last Court of Honor.
Mr. Dominick Weigel assumed the position of
Treasurer on June 5 upon the transfer of Mr. Ron
Clove. Interested adults are always needed and
welcomed. The troop meets each Wednesday
evening at 7 p. m. in the Community Center, and the
troop committee also meets at 7 p.m. in the
Community Center the last Wednesday of each
month.
