Announcements
The A.T. Mahan Elementary School
Student Council and Parent-Teacher
Organization are sponsoring a spring
carnival tomorrow at the high school from
11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Please plan for an after-
noon of fun. There will be game booths like
the ping pong toss, bowling, bingo and
much more. Prizes will be given to all
participants. There will also be goodies like
a cake walk, gingerbread house, hot dog
stand, cotton candy, and lots of others to
satisfy your appetite.
“Discover Iceland” is a series of presenta-
tions about travel opportunities in Iceland.
The presentations begin at 7 p.m. at the
NAS Library. There will be question and
answer sessions and refreshments will be
available. The schedule for the months of
April and May is: April 5, Farm Holidays;
April 12, Day Off (Easter Holiday); April
19, First Day of Summer, Ice horses (Pony
Rides); April 26, Iceland Tourist Bureau
(Edda Summer Hotels); May 3, Inter-
Iceland Bus and Coach Services; May 10,
Youth Hostels in Iceland (Budget Accomo-
dations); May 17, Iceland Touring Club
(Hiking Trips and Mountain Huts); May 24,
Four-Wheeling in Iceland; and May 31,
Summer Skiing in Iceland.
The Arctic Sportsman Club is open for
business on Wednesday and Thursday from
6:30 to 9:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday
from 1 to 5 p.m. Archery practice at the Air
Terminal is held on Friday and Saturday
from 7:30 until 10 p.m. The Skeet Range is
open all day Saturday and Sunday during
regular club hours.
The base gym has new weekend hours
beginning tomorrow. The gym will open at
8 am. and close at midnight on Saturday,
Sunday and holidays. Starting April 2, the
gym will start new weekday hours. The gym
will open at S am. and close at midnight
Monday through Friday.
The Hispanic American Society is looking
for new members, including those of a non-
Hispanic background. Anyone interested in
making new friends, learning about
Hispanic culture and having a great time,
should attend the group’s next meeting.
Meetings are held at the Community Cotter.
Children are welcome and babysitting will
be provided on the premises. Refreshments
are also served. For more information call

The University of Arizona has part-time
employment openings. Seminar leaders are
needed to facilitate the classes offered as
part of NAS Keflavik’s Alcohol and Drug
Safety Action Program. Teaching this
college equivalent course requires a person
with strong interpersonal skills but not
necessarily a college degree. Training will
be provided as required. For more details,

Family Service,Center
A child abuse prevention series will be
shown at the Family Service Center during
April, which is National Child Abuse Pre-
vention Month. The movies are for adults
only. “Child Sexual Exploitation” will be
shown Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. and
again from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. “The Hidden
Shame” and “It’s Not Always Happy At My
House” will be shown Wednesday from
noon to 1 p.m. and again Thursday from
6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
ACOA(Adult Children of Alcoholics)
Support Group will be held Wednesday
from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. This is a
weekly support group for individuals who
were raised by alcholic or drug-addicted
parents or those who lived with compulsive
behaviors such as gambling, eating disor-
ders, chronic illness, or mental illness. By
sharing some of their experiences, members
increase self-awareness, reduce feelings of
isolation, and provide support and encour-
agement to change dysfunctional patterns of
behavior.
Completing the 1040 A is the topic of a
seminar at the FSC slated for Wednesday
from 7 to 9 p.m. If you have no itemized
deductions; your filing status is single,
married filing jointly, married filing
separately, head of household, or a qualify-
ing widow with a dependent child; your
taxable income is less than $50,000; and
your source of income is from wages,
salaries, tips, taxable scholarships or
fellowships, interest dividends, or unem-
ployment this class is for you. This class is
limited to 10 participants. Please bring a
calculator, W2 forms, and your 1099
interest statements to class.
Spouse Employment Assistance Program
(SEAP) workshop will be offered on
Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. If you’re new
to the community, or if you have been here
a while and are just now deciding to join the
work force, this workshop is designed
especially for you. The SEAP Coordinator
will provide you with information about the
various employment offices on base, their
respective applications, and the current job
climate.
Completing the 1040 EZ seminar will be
held Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. If your
filing status is single, you have no depend-
ents, are under the age of 65 and not blind,
and your taxable income is less than V
$50,000 and your total earned interest is less
than $400, stop by for the seminar. Please
bring a caculator, W2 forms and your 1099
interest statements to class.
Smoking Cessation is a four-part series
which is open to anyone who has a sincere
desire to give up any form of tobacco. It is
based on the American Cancer Society’s
Fresh Start Program, but also incorporates
education, support, and nicorette gum.
Newcomers are welcome to attend, but
please be advised that this is the last session
of a four-part program. Social Actions and
CAAC co-sponsor this workshop. The
workshop will be held Friday from noon to
1 p.m.

Easter Egg Hunt for the kids on April 14
which will be held at the elementary school
playground. Mr. Easter Bunny will be
paying a visit to this event. Donations of
turkeys, ham, canned goods and desserts for
a free Easter dinner for single and unaccom-

Library Notes
Story-time is held every Tuesday at 10 a.m.
The library has several new sports videos.
If you need videos on bodybuilding,
volleyball, racquetball, aerobics, basketball
and many other sports, the Station Library is
the place to go. The videos can be checke
out for free.
Tax forms are available at the library. For^
those odd forms, ask for the reproducible
originals. Remember, library staff members
are not authorized tax consultants, but mere
distributors of tax information.
