AWACS treats
‘adopted’ class
to facility tour
Children from the A.T. Mahan Elementary
School were treated to a tour of the Airborne
Warning and Control Squadron facilities last
week as part of the school’s adopt-a-class
program. The kids were from Lori Long’s
kindergarten classes.
According to Sgt. Richard Bevill, the pro-
gram was set up so that the adopted classes
from the morning and afternoon kindergarten
classes could see their squadron’s functions.
“The children saw our new entrance and
they were guided to the squadron conference
room located in the Operations Center. The
children were then guided on a tour of the
AWACS (E-3) aircraft. The children mostly
enjoyed playing in the cockpit and playing
with the oxygen masks,” he said.
Afterwards they went back to the confer-
ence room where cookies and juice were pro-
vided by the AWACS Wives Group.
While the kids enjoyed their refreshments,
they were presented with certificates of recog-
nition for their participation.
“The squadron enjoyed the presence of the
children. We saw things from their viewpoint
that we would normally ignore,” Bevill said.
If your command would like to adopt-a-
class, call the elementary school at 7412 for
more information.
