Putting on a new face: 35th Support Group
By Col. Robert J. Gmyrek
Commander, 4557th Support Group
The long awaited re-designation ceremony
for Air Forces Iceland is finally within our
reach. On May 31, Air Forces Iceland will
become the 35th Wing. With this reorganiza-
tion, the 35th Support Group will be bom.
Restructuring, which has been on-going
throughout the Air Force for the last two
years, will functionally align all support group
units to work in peacetime the same way they
would in wartime. The group also becomes
more streamlined and efficient through this
move.
The 35th Support Group’s new structure
&nd the responsibilities of its squadrons will
look like this:
35th Logistics Support Flight
Capt. Dennis Brateng, Commander
Their mission is to manage Logistics Plans
and Programs, Transportation and Passenger
Service.
35th Mission Support Squadron
Maj. Beverly Wright, Commander
Their mission is to manage the Military
Personnel Flight, Information Management,
Educational Services, Social Actions and
Communications-Computer Systems.
35th Civil Engin. Squadron
Maj. Jim Jameson, Commander
Their mission is to manage Engineering
and Resources, Airbase Operability, Serv-
ices, Stone Eagle and Northern Lights dining
halls and Cycle Ergometry Center.
35th Security Police Squadron
Capt. Joe Wegner, Commander
Their mission is to manage Security Ad-
ministration, Operations, Standardization and
Evaluation, Training and Resources and
Central Security Control.
35th Supply Squadron ^
Maj. Mary Beth Clarkson, Commander
Their mission is to manage Combat Opera-
tions Support, Management and System,
Material Storage and Distribution and Mate-
rial Management Branches.
35th Maintenance Squadron
Maj. Vicki Harris, Commander

Fabrication, Aerospace Ground Equipment,
Propulsion, Munitions Supply, Armament
Release, Test Measurements and Diagnostic
Equipment Branches.
With Approximately 700 military and
civilian personnel, the 35th Support Group is
ready to meet the challenges of our new
restructure. We look forward to providing
the NATO Base community with quality
service you can count on.
Lyte Bytes: Prayer for those times we failed
CHAPEL OF LIGHT
... . • - —> .. _■ .i-'-rj.
O God, you know how badly 1 have failed in the
task which I attempted, and which was given me to
do, and in which I so much wanted to do well.
Don’t let me become too depressed and discour-
aged; help me to have the determination to try
again and to work still harder.
Don't let me try to put the blame on everyone and
on everything except myself.
Don’tlet me be resentful and bitter about this
failure; but help me to accept both success and
failure with a good grace.
Don’t let me be envious and jealous of those who
have succeeded where I have failed.
Don’t ever let me talk about giving up and giving
in; but help me to refuse to be beaten.
Help me to learn the lesson which you want me to
learn even from this failure; help me to begin
again, and not to make the same mistakes again.
Maybe it is hardest of all to meet the eyes of those
who are disappointed in me. Help me even then to
show them that I deserve their trust and to let them
see what I can do.
This I ask for your love’s sake. Amen
