senior enlisted comer Fleet Imaging Center: Who we are and why we’re here a By PHC Rene C. Collis The Fleet Imaging Center Detachment, Keflavik, is manned by seven photographers, totaling over 50 years of Naval photographic experience. Our primary mission here is to provide rapid processing and reproduction reconnaissance support to the VP squadrons and other NATO activities. We also provide hand-held and aerial still photographic support to the Iceland Defense Force and other DOD activities in the geo- graphical vicinity. Our mission priorities are set by the Chief of Naval Operations and are followed by this facility in accepting and setting priorities on work requests. This detachment is a black and white lab with limited color capabilities. All color printing must be sent to Brunswick, Maine or Oceania, Va. with a six to eight week turn around time. We provide photographic serv- ice to over 30 units and commands here in Iceland. Due to the CNO’s and Congress’ emphasis on the elimination of fraud, waste and abuse, the photo lab can not accommodate units with "nice to have" photography. This detachment provides mission essential pho- tographic service only. On occasion, there will arise the need for photo coverage on short notice. Such cover- age includes intelligence, accidents, equip- ment damage and criminal investigations. These are handled as emergencies with top priority. Therefore, the photo lab requires at least two working days advance notice on all routine imaging requests that have shooting requirements. Turn-around time for black and white or color slide routine services will be completed within five working days. Priority will be handled according to cus- tomer needs. Customer service hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. A photogra- pher is on duty during the lunch hour to best accommodate the needs of our customers. Scheduling of routine imaging will be ac- cepted in person or by phone during customer service hours only. Pick-up and delivery ol routine jobs will also be accomplished during these hours. Priority or emergency services will be accepted anytime. Active duty personnel who need “no fee” passports should bring a civilian shirt with them when they come in for their photo setting. Passport photos are taken anytime, with the exception of Tuesdays and Wednes- days. Customers who require passports for new boms should wait until the child is at least 10 pounds in weight. Formal and infor- mal portrait settings will be taken by appoint- ment only, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This will allow for faster turn around for our customers needs. It is encouraged that Air- Force personnel who need portraits for pro- motion purposes, bring someone who knows the Air Force uniform specs with them. Photo lab personnel are not knowledgeable in the minute details of the Air Force uniform. If you have any questions concerning the type of photography we can cover, please call me at ext. 7431/4298. Royal Netherlands Navy Commander in Chief visits NATO base Vice Admiral Nico Buis (R) talks with Sgt. Jan Lijs, a member of the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNL) De- tachment, deployed to Naval Air Station, Keflavik. Buis arrived in Keflavik last Friday for operational briefings from the Commander, Fleet Air (CFK), Keflavik, RADM Michael D. Haskins and other CFK staff members. As part of the NATO force defending the interests of Iceland, the RNL detachment performs P-3 mis- sions in the same way as the U. S. Navy VP squadrons deployed here for six months. The Dutch aircrews, however, rotate every two weeks. (Photo by J02 Carlos Bongioanni) TheWhite Falcon Commander, Iceland Defense Force RADM Michael D. Haskins Public Affairs Officer LT Joseph L.
