The Cards deal an unbeatable hand

Somehow, they made it look too easy... as though giants had stepped onto
a playing field designed for little leaguers. They were the men from the
35TH Supply “Cards” softball team, and they dwarfed all competitors in last
weekend’s championship softball tournament
With the help of a strong, steady flow of wind, and an innate ability to
swing the bat, the Cards launched, smacked, clobbered, powered and sent
sailing more home run balls in one game than a true gentleman would care
to recount. It was a bashing an opponent would rather soon forget.
Although Rockville knocked a couple over the fence during the champi-
onship matchup, they couldn’t compete with the “big bats” of the Cards. For
that matter, nobody has been able to compete with the Cards for several
years. They now have an impressive 65-2 win/loss ratio over the past three
years.
“We do something no other team does,” said assistant coach Tim
Brumfield. “We have hitting practice before every game, no matter what the
weather is like. Even if we were to play the ‘Keflavfk Blind School,’ we’d
be out there practicing.”
Brumfield also admitted that their team has the advantage of cohesion,
since five of the Cards ’ players have played together for a minimum of three
years.
“We have a high commitment level,” added teammate Rob Johnson. “We
also have a little more experience on our team with the average age of our
players being between 25 and 30. In a league like this, the age factor is going
to make a big difference.”
Interestingly, the top four finishers in last weekend's tournament were all
from the Ice League. This CFK Team finished third with AIMD following.
The four teams from the Fire League that took part in the tourney were
Hospital A, 35 MSSQ, VIM9 and 56 RQS.

team's success: the ability to hit homers.
