SureStart encourages opportunity
for Keflavik base children
Naval Air Station, Keflavik, is
offering a new program for pre
school age children to give them
every advantage for success in
their education.
SureStart is a six hour per day
developmental program for three
and four year old children which
will run for a normal school year
and is provided for SureStart
families free of cost.
SureStart was modeled after
the national program HeadStart
which was designed as a compre-
hensive child development pro-
gram to help children gain the
benefits available to all children
before they enter school.
For the children to best gain
these benefits, SureStart offers a
four part program which includes
education, health, social services,
and parent involvement.
Eligibility requirements are
focused on the needs of our
community and will be individu-
ally assessed.
Screening will begin soon for
the fall class. Applications are
available at the Child Develop-
ment Center between the hours
of 8:30 and 4:30 p.m. If you have
any questions about this program
and if it would meet the needs of
your child, call the Child Devel-
opment Center at 7603.
