Talent search to produce winner soon
local band, “Joker” vies for top prize
Musical recording stars Vanessa Williams and Ricky Skaggs
will lead an entertainment industry judging panal Monday,
that will choose the grand prize winner of the USO/AT&T
Countdown to Stardom ’93 talent search. The musical talent
search was held at 22 overseas U.S. military bases from Sept.
25 to Oct. 10.
Naval AirStationKeflavik’sevent was held Oct. 9. Morale,
Welfare and Recreation’s local judging panel selected the
band, “Joker,” to win the first place base prize of $500. The
videotape of Joker’s performance, along with the other win-
ning acts, was then submitted to the panal of judges.
The judges will select an overall winner to receive $5,000
and a trip to New York City for a recording session at Sony
Music Studios. The winners will be introduced by Skaggs at
a Washington, D.C., press conference scheduled Nov. 16.
