The joke that Iceland only has two sea- sons comes with a kernel of truth. As the daffodils bloom in warmer climes, Iceland lags behind. In fact, the first third of the year—where spring should be—is a long, snowy extension of the unpredictable shitstorm of winter. But life goes on—so welcome to the ‘Spring’ edition of our Best Of Reyk- javík magazine. To create this guide to the city, we dragged a selection of the most knowledgeable shoppers, com- mitted barflies, indefatigable hikers, and most gluttonous gourmands from their hibernation to help us compile this list of the best Reykjavík has to of- fer. During the debates, we discussed all the new galleries, up ‘n’ coming eateries and tucked away boutiques as we engaged in the fun and lengthy de- cision process. We also refreshed the awards for 2018. For example, we’ve seen a re- cent trend for tasting menus, so you can now find out our top three in the dining section, and there’s been a groundswell of top quality artist-run spaces at the grassroots of the art scene, which now have a category of their own. While you’re here, keep an eye out for our sister publications, Best Of Iceland and The Reykjavík Grape- vine, for more news, culture, and trav- el ideas, and download the Appy Hour and Appening apps for cheap booze deals and events listings. We hope you find this issue useful and entertaining as you slither around Reykjavík’s slippery streets and alley- ways. Take care of yourselves, and each other.
